Man Oh Man

This post is a personal thanks to blissontap777. Thank you. Thank you for making me extremely homesick by posting a bunch of pictures of shit that I used to love to do. The Soulard Oktoberfest was not even close to the one at the Deutscheshaus. Soulard is kind of like a "New Orleans Lite". It's one of the places in St. Louis that I've found where you can go to a bar and not be asked if you want anything to eat. There is also a bunch of Mardi Gras stuff everywhere; apparently Soulard is where St. Louis has its parades. Isn't that nice? Parades in only one fucking section of town so that the whole god-forsaken city isn't clogged for the entire month? Also it doesn't smell of waste. Anyway, Oktoberfest. Yeah. Basically you've got a beer selection that spans from Budweiser to Warsteiner all served up by a gaggle of strippers taking the night off. That's not entirely true. There was one (seriously, 1) booth that served all the *good* beers (Spaten, Franzikaner, and the other few that I won't even bother misspelling like I did those two). Funny thing was that this booth had the shortest line and the cheapest beer; a true testament to mid-western classiness.

Man, seeing those pictures makes me want to get in the car and start heading south until I hit water. On the other hand things are going really well up here. It's getting really cold, I'm not sure if I'm prepared for that; we're already using the central heat. I found a really great coffee shop named "Meshugga". It's like a cross between Rue de la Course and Z'otz. Yes, I'm serious; it was very convenient for me. Next door is a Buddhist supply store where this guy with gauged ears teaches Zen in a building that represents all religions*. He said that he was a monk in China for ten years, which is pretty cool. Also, I found a professor at Washington University who teaches Japanese history from 1868-1945. She even wrote articles on WW2 shit! Yay! Let's just hope that statement of purpose I'm supposed to be writing comes out good. I'm still applying for law school, but it's always nice to have options, especially since WashU does a joint J.D./M.A. in East Asian Studies.
