Pounding Pavement for Pay (and Change)

Yesterday was my first day of work as a canvasser for moveon.org. I can't say that I work for the Obama campaign because of campaign finance laws; I mean, I *don't* work for the campaign, but I canvass people and try to get them to vote for Barak Obama, so take that as you will. I'm also 95% sure that I got a job as a administrator at Work for Progress. I'll have to wait until the POC calls me back, but I don't think that they'd call me two days after an interview just to tell me I didn't get the job.

Anyway the job yesterday was fun. We went to a "balloon glow" which, apparently, is the biggest event in St. Louis. It looked like Mardi Gras (only it was just concentrated in one park, not the whole city, thank god). We canvassed from 3-9 and I got 6 people to register, which was a pretty good first day.

Ok, that was written on the 20th. It's now the morning of the 24th. I've been so busy that I had to quit writing that earlier post and go hustle voters. I did get a job as a canvass director and on October 8th I will be relocating from St. Louis to start a new office in one of the battleground states; those being Ohio, Virgina, Arizona, Iowa, North Carolina, Michigan, and Missouri. I'll *probably* end up in Ohio, since we really want to win that state. The only difference from the above statement is that I am still working with Moveon.org.

I apologize for the matter-of-fact writing style of this post. I assure you it's because of the major amount of time that is required to canvass. However, to date, I have registered 39 voters including one former felon (those are special because they usually have been told that they will never be able to vote again, which is completely untrue).
