Good morning. This is Arashi's Ohno Satoshi.
Here's today's thought of the day; come on!

"A mother is the only person in the world who already loves you before she knows you." [1]

[BGM 'Kansha Kangeki Ame Arashi']

That's great. That's a great quote.
This is a quote by Swiss philosopher Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi who lived during the 18th-19th century. Pestalozzi was known as the father of educating the masses, due to his teachings that every child was capable of being educated.

This was sent in by listener Maruyu-san of Hachioji. The message reads:
"Satoshi-kun, good morning. When I first heard this quote, I thought of my mother. Although I'm always causing her trouble and I occasionally even fight with her, somehow I was overcome with memories that can't be put into words. It also made me imagine a time when I become a mother myself. Have you gone back to your parents' home or spent time with your mother lately?"

I see.
I haven't gone home lately. Well, I'm in the middle of a drama right now, so well, there hasn't really been time to go. Yeah.

I was born from my mother's stomach. Right? It's unbelievable. Mm. It's something only mothers would know. I'll never ever know, as a man. Yeah. That pain and all. I mean, they say it's like passing a watermelon through your nose, right? The pain of giving birth to a child. Eh? Don't they say that? Like a watermelon through the nose. I can't imagine it. That's how much it hurts.

Men probably wouldn't be able to bear it, right? Like the fortitude of women and that perseverance so that they can definitely give birth... But like, if men could get pregnant and give birth, I wonder what that would be like?

I wouldn't have the guts! (laughs) The guts to give birth. That's something men will never know.

Well, the metaphor for the pain is a watermelon through the nose. I can't even imagine a mandarin orange! (laughs) It's not a matter of size, though. I can't even do cherry tomatoes! (laughs) It's gotta hurt like heck, I mean. Um, even muscat grapes would be impossible. (laughs)

Well, that's how amazing mothers are. Mm. It's almost Mother's Day. I'm gonna have to think about that. Yeah. Gotta think about what present to get!

That's all; this was Ohno Satoshi!

[1] In its original German: "Eine Mutter ist der einzige Mensch auf der Welt, der dich schon liebt, bevor er dich kennt."
Attributed to Pestalozzi but not properly cited, it started appearing on German quote sites in the early 2000s.
