"If I see a bear I will lose my s***"

I've been MIA for awhile. I'm finding it harder and harder to sit and blog about my personal life. I'm wondering if I should take this blog in another direction, or just post less often. I dunno...am I even interesting anymore? Was I ever?

Speaking of interest, I do have a little change of pace. I returned Monday from a 4 day hike up along Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in the UP with my friend Adrienne. The trail covers around 48 miles and is along the southern shore of Lake Superior between Munising and Grand Marais. It was absolutely beautiful! I definitely had reservations about going, especially after everyone I knew (coworkers, friends, family) doubted that I could even do it. Well, I did. 48 miles in 4 days (2 of which were 1/2 days). It was such an amazing feeling to accomplish something like that. I definitely came away with a feeling like I could do anything. Its such a great realization when you notice that change in yourself!

This was the starting point of the trail (from Munising). The river extends down from Munsing Falls.

Munising Falls

Although the weather on the trail was beautiful, we ran into some fog on the beach where we made lunch. These were on the bottom of huge trees that had fallen over.

First 'view'

Mosquito River. We stayed right by here on our first night.

The river emptied out into Lake Superior and there were these huge slabs of sandstone rock that formed a shelf out into the lake. We played around on these for hours!

My favorite picture from the trip!

Chapel Rock

It was awesome to look back on what you had just climbed over! Definitely made all that tough terrain worthwhile.

Trapper's Lake. Our home (and bath) for night 2.

Rambo meets backpacker. What do we think?

Most of the pictures are from the 1st and 2nd days on the trail. The 3rd day we ran into stormy weather and the heavens opened up on us as soon as we got into our campsite on night 3. The 7 miles back to the car on Monday morning were definitely the hardest, as our boots had become lakes, we were hiking through mounds of poison ivy and our packs weighed a few pounds more because everything was soaked. Hey, mother nature brought it, and we survived! Who wants to go next year?

Ellen had a delicious cake surprise waiting for me when I got back! It was the best. I missed her while i was gone :)

Adrienne and I rinsed out all of our gear last night and played some frisbee in the yard. It felt like the start of summer. Of a really great summer...
