Doll Quilt Swap 8

Mar 16, 2010 08:31

I love swaps! I'm addicted. I can't say no, no matter how much other work I have on my plate already. It's beginning to be a little bit of a problem but, out of all the swaps out there, I doubly couldn't say no to this one. So many of the best quilters out there take part - I just had to be part of that mix!

As a result my mini quilt was sent off a little bit late but I hope that my partner will still love it.

{ if you want to see more detail you can click through to the flickr photo page, click on "all sizes" and see it larger }

I also hope that it's not too obvious who my partner is just from looking at my quilt!

I fell in love with this while I was making it, so I found it very hard to give away. Each leaf is free-motion appliquéd on, same with each bird and the trunk. Then I tried my hand at free-motion quilting in small spirals filling in all the white area around the tree. Phew! That took some time and I tell you what - it's quite the arm workout!

I'd love to claim this quilt design as my own but it's designed by Kellie of Don't Look Now fame! I just adapted it a little to fit a mini quilt size. Yes that's right - you can have a quilt like this in proper large quilt size! I would really recommend her patterns for any quilter, especially if you wanted to try raw edge appliqué or free-motion quilting.

{ I'm quite liking my polaroid photos now. I feel like I'm looking through a scrapbook when I browse through my flickr gallery... And I like that. }
