Just a quick post today as I head out the door and into the smoke haze to run some errands. I don't dare turn on the news yet and see updated death tolls or more scenes of charred earth.
Today is actually my one year blogiversary but it doesn't really seem right to celebrate. I had a giveaway planned but I think I'll postpone the whole shebang for a week or so.
If you want to help out the best way is probably to donate money to the
Red Cross Bushfire Appeal or
Salvation Army Bushfire Appeal - even you guys overseas can do it!
Aussies, please
donate blood. There are hundreds in the hospitals with burns, some just on their feet from running across embers and coals and flames, some with quite significant burns to their bodies. Don't let the death toll climb higher.
Bianca from
The Toy Society is trying to find an organisation who will take handmade toys to distribute to children who have lost everything in the bushfires. Please contact her at
thetoysociety@gmail.com if you would like to donate a toy (made by you or store-bought, I don't think it really matters at this stage).
Really the best thing you can do now is dig into your pockets and donate. Donate the price of a movie ticket, or skip going out to dinner one night, or donate your cocktail monies.
Aussies, you can donate money at any Myer store across Victoria. Bunnings is also accepting donations, or you can pop into your local NAB, ANZ, Westpac or Commonwealth bank.
Maybe you want to turn your Etsy store into a fundraiser like
Sparkly Green Knickers. If I can get some of this stuff I've been making for Stitches and Crafts finished and photographed I think I'll take the same route - go buy handmade and support those in need! If you'd like to turn your Etsy store into a fundraising store please contact me and I'll add your link and spread it around to others who are compiling links too.
