Actually, it seems as if she thinks I'm stalking her. Really kinda weird, since I actually haven't done anything creepy yet =/
Anyway, I figured it was about time for an update in my life and stuff. I joined the club softball team, which is turning out to be lots of fun. We just had our first two games today against a team of people who took their beers out onto the field with them. It was lots of fun, and we demolished them in the first game (when they demanded a second, which we gladly accepted, because we were having fun and the first one was really fast). We ordered pizza in the middle somewhere, and it got there right after the second game finished, so we had a little pizza picnic there in the park where we had the game. It was nice. They seem like fun enough people, so I'll keep hanging out with them when I get the chance (which so far has just been practice and game days). We have a game in Binghamton (which is about 2-3 hours away) in two weeks, so I'm looking forward to the road trip bonding experience, even though I won't be able to drive =(
I started music composition lessons at Eastman almost two weeks ago. I meet with this amazingly talented young woman (born in Prague, thinking she might be a grad student, but not sure), and she shuns tonality. The stuff she comes up with is awesome, but it's not how I think, and not how most people think. Atonal music just doesn't do it for me. I feel emotions, and when I try to convey them through music, it just happens tonally. There are certain chords that I associate with certain feelings, and she tells me that I can express so much more if I escape from the restrictions of tonality... but I feel trapped in an atonal world. I mean, if the ideas running through my head are centered in tonality, why shouldn't I write them that way? If a chromatic chord does happen to run through my head, sure, I'll throw it in there. Anyway, I hope I can write something that pleases both myself and her.
I've also been playing pickup games of ultimate frisbee on Saturday nights. Actually, I'm going to have to cut this short, as I will be late if I don't leave right now. I will edit or make a second post with more later.
