Hm.  I grew up on country music, and only started learning other genres recently.  Mostly self defense since dudes at Independence Middle and Princess Anne High back in Virginia genuinely could not comprehend people liking country music.  I asked people why they didn't like country awhile back, and received... interesting answers.

One dude said it's because the songs were stupid.  Okay, yeah, I can accept that's your point of view.  I think rap's a little stupid and involves very little singing talent, at least what I've heard of it.  The songs can be stupid, whiny, just plain out there, but that's something you see in all genres.

Note that I have nothing against other types of music or anything, and I'm definitely not against people hating genres for various reasons.  BUT, I think it's just a little off that I could find NO country music fans, yet I met several people who enjoyed Rascal Flatts.  THEY'RE COUNTRY TOO.  They're singing sucks, and yet you like them?

Mini story; back in 2005 I believe, fourth of July.  A bunch of folks (read; thousands) had gathered up at Mount Trashmore which was right down the street from us in Virginia Beach.  It's a landfill turned beautiful park that's a common gathering place.  They were all down there for the fireworks later, my family went and parked at the top of a parking garage a few miles away.  Ours was the smarter choice.  BUT, turns out MTV had a bunch of artists down there, including very successful Keith Urban.  MTV tried to kick him off the stage before his act was done, because he was country.  BAD BAD COMPANY.  Idiots got themselves kicked out I believe.

In my opinion, some of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard are country.  And then I ask another female at school why SHE hates country, and she says it's because she can't stand listening to the 'hick' accents.  WHUT?  A; have you HEARD Martina McBride?  One of THE superstars of country, beautiful voice and one of the best performers I've ever seen.  Her recent performance on American Idol, which you had to have seen, Grace, was FLAWLESS.  B, I guess you really didn't like listening to me then huh?  My accent's so mixed that no one can tell whether I was born in Canada, Michigan, Alabama, or Mexico when it's NONE OF THE ABOVE.

You also must remember Carrie Underwood, another bestselling country artist who one American Idol.  OH YEAH, SHE HAS AN ACCENT TOO!

If you had just said it was because it wasn't your style, I would've been fine with it, but here I am ranting over a year later because you upset me that much.  ACCENTS, of all the things to hate.  She went on about how different accents made people look stupid, and I was so VERY tempted to bring back my lisp so I could annoy her.

Brought to you by an Advent Children AMV I just found using Vince Gill's Go Rest High On That Mountain.  One of those tear worthy songs.  It's on youtube for those who wish to look it up, be warned it's also religious, another thing people have told me they hate about country.

Other songs I rec:  Garth Brooks; The River, Standing Outside the Fire, The Dance, Changes: Alan Jackson; Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning (On That September Day):  Toby Keith; The List:  Vince Gill; I Still Believe In You

Those are some of the best, and all I can think of right now.  Tired, bedtime.  Night folks.

rl, music
