So...angry!

I know that pretty much everyone I know is obsessively reading every politics-related article they can get their hands on. This week, though, I've found myself furious because it's been a lot more difficult o find new articles about economy, healthcare, etc, because of the newest outlandish, absurd, and pretty much INSANE attempt by John McCain to convince people to vote for him. You know how we were wondering what ridiculous publicity stunt he was going to pull in October? Ta da! This is it.

Honestly, how does anyone on the McCain staff think this is a good idea? I remember from my Poli-Sci class something called the Caddell thesis, as named for the efforts of Patrick Caddell to insert so much negative advertisement into the campaign that voters actually decided they wanted no part of the election. And so his candidate won.

This seems like an excellent strategy if you've solidified your base and are in the lead. The Republicans are not, which makes this just baffling to me. All this nonsense about Obama having ties to a man who was a political subversive in the 1960s is nuts! All I see happening is that die-hard Republicans are starting to froth at the mouth, and the "undecided" voters, being generally more moderate, are shifting around uncomfortably.

Upon further reflection, I guess it's not surprising that the Republicans are trying to tie the Democratic nominee to any kind of Vietnam-era terrorist. After all, McCain has already threatened the leader of Spain...I guess if you're standing on thin ice you might as well dance.

I highly recommend Keith Obermann for a nice breath of extremely Democratic air. I usually avoid this sort of thing because he is basically the Bill O'Reilly of the Left, but sometimes it's nice to someone's hysterical rantings lean in a direction I agree with.

In related news, I was surprised to watch the two minute ad on FOX from Obama. I thought he did a very good job talking about his economic plan. He was serious, thoughtful, and invited the American public to actually READ IT THEMSELVES. When the next commercial break featured a negative ad from the McCain campaign, I realized Obama's "infomercial" had succeeded in making the republican smear ads looks amateurish and silly. I think that as long as Obama keeps his ad spots looking like this, he will do well.

...and that was a remarkably long rant. Anyway, I'm off to pack for Cali-forn-I-A.

obama, mccain, moronic
