Life at Stargate Command could be surprisingly boring at times, although Buffy was incredibly careful never to say that aloud. Experience from both the SGC and her old reality had taught her that saying things like that was pretty much a self-fulfilling prophecy, and she'd had more than enough of those to last a lifetime.

Major Sheppard was an interesting person, who, like certain past and present members of SG-1, seemed to relish living outside the box. It had taken a little time for him to accept that she really had clearance to know not only about the SGC and to have access there, but also that she had been given permission to know about Atlantis. The latter was more because there was no way to keep it from her unless they wanted to temporarily ban her from Cheyenne Mountain.

When he finally got more comfortable, he was more than willing to give her and whoever happened to be there a first-hand account of what had happened in the Pegasus Galaxy in the last year. Atlantis herself was a hot topic, but then there was the Wraith, who were essentially space vampires. Which, but, of course. It certainly explained why she had ended up in this particular reality since there were no actual vampires anywhere.

As soon as she had gotten some money and been able to get out of Cheyenne Mountain, she had gone to a library and used one of the public computers there to do a little research of her own. There had never been a town called Sunnydale in California, a search for the Watcher's Council had not gotten her anything that fit with Slayers and demons, or even anything that would've worked as a convincing cover story.

Name searches for Giles, Willow, and Xander hadn't gotten her anything either. Or, it had, but not the right ones. She didn't know Kendra's last name so she couldn't try and find her, but Faith turned out to be an aspiring actress. Which were all kinds of weird, especially since she had a leading role in a teen romance TV show which also had Cordelia as a supporting actress.

Buffy did make searches for other people she had known as well, both in Los Angeles and Sunnydale, before she finally did a search for her mother and alternate reality half-siblings. It was weird because her mother still looked more or less like her mother, but there were subtle differences. Not that she had found a whole lot of pictures, but there had been a few. Freya and Keith had a lot more pictures on their social media, and a lot of friends on there so she didn't feel guilty for making a profile just so she could do a little online stalking. She also added Faith and a few other people whom she recognized from her old life.

Sam probably wouldn't be happy if she found out, but Buffy was a teenager, and part of that was not doing everything your parents or guardians told you to do. In a half-hearted attempt to not be too obvious, she also added a couple of dozen random people and various celebrities she had liked before. It made it look like a normal teenage girl owned the profile, all it was missing was a picture.

Buffy had zoned out a little from the conversation where Major Sheppard was telling her, Vala, Daniel, and Cam about something or other that had happened when she finally heard something that drew her right back in.

"...she had gone back in time with another version of me and one of the scientists," Sheppard said.

"Wait," Buffy interrupted, "I zoned out a little. What did you say about going back in time?"

Hazel-green eyes looked at her with amusement. "I said, we were exploring the City when we came across a room with a stasis chamber. It held an alternate version of Dr. Elizabeth Weir, the civilian commander. Originally, only part of the power had come on when we arrived because there wasn't enough power left. The shield collapsed and the City was flooded.

"Someone had managed to find the Jumper Bay, it held small spaceships meant to fly through the stargate. It turned out one of those ships had some kind of time travel capability, and when Dr. Weir, Dr. Zelenka, and myself tried to fly it out of the flooding City I accidentally activated the time travel function and we went back 10,000 years to when the Ancients were still alive."

"Huh. I take it your alternates somehow did something to save the expedition in the new timeline then?"

He smiled ruefully. "We were shot down since the Ancients were at war with the Wraith and we didn't really know what were doing. Zelenka and I were killed in the crash, but Elizabeth survived. She convinced one of the Ancient scientists to leave her behind when the rest of them went back to Earth so she could rotate the ZPM's so there would be more power left when the Expedition arrived again. And it worked."

"That's amazing!" Buffy smiled at the man, then it slipped a little. "What happened to the old Dr. Weir?"

"She didn't survive for long after we revived her from the stasis, but the information she gave us, and what she did with the ZPMs. We wouldn't have been here if she hadn't done that."

At least she, Buffy, had ended up somewhere with people who lived equally or even weirder lives than she did. "I guess you won't be too shocked then if I tell you I'm from an alternate reality?"

He didn't really believe that, and it took Daniel and Cam, with some unhelpful comments from Vala, to convince him.

"You're really from an alternate reality?"

"Yup. Some big ugly guy threw me into a purple unstable wormhole, and now I'm here."

That caused Major Sheppard to call his best friend and lead scientist from Atlantis, and then she had to explain everything all over again and in even more detail. Go figure, but at least she was interesting to them now? Sort of.
