Today I overslept even worse than yesterday, wtf? Okay, third time's the charm.
We finally alerted the board of the housing cooperative about the loud humming noise we've had in our flat since some time before Christmas. The first time I heard it, I thought our freezer had broken, it's that same sort of mechanical droning noise. There doesn't seem to be any sort of rhythm/cycle to it, but at its worst, we had the noise going for 2-5 minutes ever 10 minutes or so. It's the kind of noise that fills up your head without you really noticing, you just know it's there, and it tires you out, and it's annoying. It makes it difficult to think, concentrate, and relax. I suspect this noise has affected my sleeping, as it's usually at its worst at night. It's made it difficult to fall asleep.
Anyway, they replied, and apparently there are some ventilation fans or something in the ceiling (I'm not sure exactly where they're placed, but judging by the vibrations we feel in the walls and ceiling when the noise is at its loudest, it's in or on the ceiling) that aren't working correctly. They're looking into it, I hope they'll have it fixed soon.
I've gotten used to falling asleep to podcasts lately, but last night I ended up listening to the entire thing, because it was so hilarious, I couldn't fall asleep. It was the very first episode of Drunks and Dragons. Anyone else listening to this? I've tried a bunch of other D&D/RPG podcasts in the past, but none of them have been able to hook me. I guess I finally found my D&D podcast of choice?
It is now even colder than it was yesterday, and tomorrow is going to be even colder still. I hope I don't have to venture outside tomorrow. I had to go outside today to pick up cinema tickets and drop off some books. The skin around my lips and nose has cracked, the air is so dry. Just sticking my head out the door is enough to make my face bleed. Nice. I hate winter so much.
