Tuesday's practice was a repetition of last Tuesday's practice, but without all the jammer specific drills. We covered the following:
- Knees over toes
- Crossover drills: jumping, one footed
- Crossovers at high speed
- Stopping and accelerating
- Hockey stops
Tuesday practices are for the whole league, so we practice together with the Oslo Roller Derby girls, it's really motivating to hear them ask questions about the drills and see that they struggle with the same things us freshmeats do. A lot of the girls there didn't feel comfortable with their hockey stops, so we were a whole group off to the side learning how to do them from scratch. I got into it fairly quickly, hockey stops is how I used to slow down/stop whenever I went ice skating, so the motion comes sort of natural to me - it feels more natural than plow stops at any rate, so yeah. Fun that skills can carry over like that.
Did I mention that our coach these last couple of Tuesday's has been an Olympic skater? No? Well.. yeah. It feels sort of weird, you guys.
Oslo has a home bout December 5th, and I can't wait to go see them all in action :D
A short comment about work; I feel like I'm dodging shady projects left and right lately. Today, one of my regular clients tried to pass a complicated editing task off as simple implementation of corrections following review. I was able to pass on it without coming off as unprofessional, so I'll take that as a win even though I had to pass on a bunch of work :S I'm still on their review team. Whoop. Honestly, I'd rather do translation than review, but some clients only have review tasks up for grabs ;_;

Dead Sara. Have any of you listened to them? I absolutely love what I've heard so far. Anyone got any other hard-hitting rocker girl recommendations? I want more, more, more of this.
