Work Update

Work was surprisingly stressful today. I struggle a bit with getting into a regular routine, it's a combination of being wiped out from too many social events and the autumn sneaking up on me. It's pitch black out by 7pm now! I find it difficult to wake up in the morning.

But yes, my freelancing is starting to pick up. I'm getting a steady stream of work, and I'll see in a month or two whether the work I put in is enough to support me or if I need to adjust my rates/volumes. Right now I feel I'm probably underselling myself and/or not taking on enough work, but it's difficult to tell.

I can't believe October is almost over! I was planning on submitting my working holiday application by the end of October, but now I'm not sure I'll make it. I should at least get in touch with the embassy and start the process. I have been able to renew my passport, so that is step 1 out of the way!

In language related news, have you seen the various articles on how "Texas" is used as an expression in Norwegian to express that something is crazy/wild/out of control? I love how recursive the whole piece has become. I remember seeing people talk about it on tumblr, then I found the Texas Monthly article on it, now there's a Norwegian article on how Americans wrote an article about this, and yet another article in The Washington Post. Norwegians love it when Norwegian stuff is mentioned in foreign media, so this'll probably go on for a while.

As a Norwegian, I can confirm that we do use "texas" as an expression over here. Though I find the interpretation of it meaning simply "crazy" a little misleading. The "texas" thing has more to do with the wild west connotations than its modern stereotype. It refers to situations that are out of control, situations where people don't play by the rules ... so that's why we'll stick with Texas, even if Florida is the crazy state.
