I had roller derby practice yesterday, NSO'd at scrimmage today, and ended up spending 1.5 hours on skates afterwards. Despite this, this weekend is the first weekend in ages to feel like a proper weekend. I've been so busy with events and plans lately, I feel I really needed to just chill at home. It's been great.
Roller derby and board games, my weekend in a nutshell. I have zero complaints.
I lucked out at the scrimmage today, I was given lineup duties for my NSO-ing, and I really enjoyed it! Your task as lineup NSO is to keep track of a team's starting players for each jam, what position they play for that jam, whether there are any star passes, or penalties. No math required for this task! My perfect NSO position, hahaha. I've now NSO'd at four scrimmages, so I have passed this part of my roller derby course. Score!
Open skate was a lot of fun today, I think I'll change my wheel setup for my next practice. I'm starting to get the hang of plows now, but I think maybe some wheel tweaking can make it even easier for me.
Backwards skating and proper crossover technique remains a mystery.
I've started up a new video game over the weekend. Christian got me a season pass for Life is Strange. The writing is so fucking awkward, but I enjoy the gameplay a lot. I guess I enjoy the characters too, but lol damn. It's all so very, very tumblr generation. Very entertaining! I finished the first chapter, looking forward to starting the second one.
Speaking of tumblr, I don't usually bother with its drama, but the Zamii070 incident is worth talking about. Basically, an artist who posted her art on tumblr got harassed for her (perfectly fine!) artwork. It led to a suicide attempt, the artist is in hospital hoping to get help to get better. BUT SURELY SHE'S NOT THE ONE WHO NEEDS HELP? Tumblr needs to shut these bullies down. Seriously. You can catch up on the drama
here.
The world needs more art, not extremely specific artworks deemed diverse and correct by the tumblr sjw squad.
Fuck, if you can't handle seeing a character from a show you like drawn a little different than what you're used to, please don't pick up any artbooks ever.
