Standing Desk Update #1 (yes, already!)

Jan 21, 2015 23:08

Okay, so it hasn't even been a full week, but let's see how things are going with my standing desk experiment, shall we?

I've had to put my main monitor on a huge stack of papers to keep it up high enough to feel comfortable to look at. It is starting to look dangerous. I've been adding to the stack all week. :|

I've also raised the desk itself a whole lot. Don't believe me? Compare with what it looked like after I first set it up last Thursday:

Yep. That spray bottle that the cleaning guy left behind conveniently measures out the change in height. Isn't that ridiculous? Is my posture improving? The desk is definitely not sinking over night, hahahahha.

But what does it feel like? Honestly, it feels great! But my body is very tired today. My back and shoulder area is throwing me some weird aches that I haven't felt before. My legs are still doing fine - I do feel like I'm working up a bad case of THUNDER THIGHS by doing this, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

My work days have not gotten shorter, I still end up with the occasional 9~10 hour work day (tough I do my best to avoid this as much as possible!). I have my 30 minute lunch break where I sit down, and I make sure to take a walk around the office now and again, but I am up on my feet all day long. Someone commented today "Do you stand like that all day long???? PEOPLE ARE WEIRD~~ HHAHAHAHH!", and I'm not gonna lie, that made me feel very self-conscious. Whatever, dude, I find sitting sedentary for 8+ hours a day errrrry day pretty weird, myself! I am obviously choosing to ignore this comment completely (.......).

I definitely feel a spike in energy! I'm still on point, alert, and I have the energy to actually do house work and cook, and read (!!!!!) after work! This was a huge issue for me last year (remember, I had to go on sick leave because I got so burnt out), so this feels great! Physical exhaustion I can obviously deal with. Wednesdays are usually the worst work day for me. I have a regularly scheduled hour long morning meeting that continues to fuck up my team management routine no matter how much I prepare for it. So I usually go home every Wednesday with a raging migraine. Not today! Even though my day was in no way any less fucked up than previous Wednesdays. Aaaah, it feels so great. Yes, yes, let's keep going.

But I'm gonna need some serious back rub action. STAT.

health, i'm the boss, work, all about me
