I'm sorry I seemingly dropped off the earth there for a little while. Apparently LJing gets difficult when you have things happen? Strange :P

Along with Thorin, Thranduil was just too awesome for mere words. I thought the goblin town was too long and could of served to have some of the battle cut but I think that was the only think that I found too long.. Theres so many things about this film that I love that I think I was very happy about it.
Glad you had a lovely chrissie party, but what is urbexing?
Pretty much all of that battle should have been cut, in my opinion. They could have expanded upon the Riddles in the Dark segment instead, which after all is a pretty major plot point for the whole rest of the LotR saga :P
I'm glad people enjoy it, but yeah, no. I feel the appendices should have been left out of this one.
I FORGOT TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION ABOUT URBEXING. Hahaha. Sorry.
Urbex = Urban exploration. Basically exploring abandoned places or closed down buildings etc. :D I've always had an interest in this, but I've never actually gone on an expedition before (difficult to know where to start). My coworker has found a pretty cool place to explore that's like 10 minutes away from my apartment, so .....
They fluffed the hell out of the movie. Tim's all time favorite book EVER is the Hobbit and he fell asleep twice. That's saying something. I think if the studios had allowed PJ to do it as two films as he wanted instead of three it wouldn't have been so bad. It was pleasant... for the most part. Like you I was so over the multiple battles by about the second or third one, lol.
I can understand why people want to combine it with presenting things from the LotR appendices, but unghh. It's so unnecessary, and it's not The Hobbit
( ... )
I keep vowing to get my hands on the audiobooks. I tried to read the books one time, made it 30 pages, said "I don't hate myself" and closed the book. I just can't. As someone who hasn't read the hobbit (though I did know it was essentially a children's tale) it really felt like they were trying to suck in a new generation of LOTR fans by turning the hobbit into LOTR2. There was not much child-like about the movies to me.
The Hobbit is a much easier read than LotR :D Since it's a children's book 8D
Which is why LotR was a bit of a shock for me when I started reading it in secondary school. I was pretty OCD about reading when I was younger, though, so anything I started, I finished. XD I wish someone had told me that Tolkien had made nature into an important character, because those landscape descriptions that just go on and on and on and on are just ridiculous. If I ever attempt a re-read, I'll definitely skip through those ^^;
Also the Council of Elrond chapter (the whole YOU HAVE MY AXE, AND MY SWORD, AND MY BOW, ONE DOES NOT SIMPLY.... sequence in the LotR films) is like a 200 page spectacle that drags on and on and on. I was dreading that sequence when I first watched the LotR film, and I'm pretty sure I laughed out loud when I saw how elegantly they just skipped right over most of it in the film 8D
I had to google urbexing to figure ot what it was, LOL. Sounds like it could be fun though!
I really enjoyed The Hobbit, but I agree that it's not exactly like the book. It does have more whimsy and fun than the LoTR trilogy though. So I am glad for that since the book was like that too in comparison.
There was way more epic battles than I expected, but past the history lessons I rather loved it. :)
I've been interested in urbexing for forever :) Never really done any exploration of my own, though.
I wonder if I would have enjoyed the film more if I didn't know the source material at all. Like mentioned, I hate comparing film adaptations with their sources, because different format = completely different story, that's just the way it works no matter what. And I'm fine with that. Still, I fell asleep during this film. There's something very off with that. I felt the chasing orcs seemed very tacked on. There were a lot going on in general, it was as if it lacked focus, somehow. I don't know. It was entertaining, but I did not enjoy this as much as the LotR films (which is the most logical thing to compare this to).
AH SASSY THRANDUIL! I AM SO FREAKING OBSESSED WITH SASSY THRANDUIL. I have SO many gifs and stuff of him and Diva Legolas (which you should check out too!)
I won't really go too much into my Hobbit feels since mine are so..conflicted.. but I just LOVE LOVE LOVE THE ELVEN KING.

I totally understand about The Hobbit - I can't wait to see the other films :)

I have a mild interest in the future Hobbit films, I guess :P And I must admit, it's mostly out of nostalgia for my love of the LotR films.
