This day hasn't been very nice.
We wanted a late start, because we went to EuroDisney yesterday and our legs really needed the rest. We hung the DO NOT DISTURB sign out on our door, and thought all would be well. It wouldn't be. This really angry maid came knocking a couple of times, babbling on and on in French even after we tried to explain that we don't speak it. She went away, but came back about 10 minutes later. I'd just gotten out of the shower, so I was in my underwear when she barged in and propped the door open with a towel 8Db WTF.
She started babbling to me again, repeating herself over and over... but I have no idea whatsoever what she was trying to say. She didn't try to make it easier for me to understand, and she didn't use gestures or body language to explain @_@ it was very confusing and scary and annoying. She started doing her job, rushing around, moaning and complaining as she went. Then, randomly, this guy comes in, IN HIS UNDERWEAR... AND GIVES HER MONEY?!?!. hfjasfhjsa I'm so glad I'd been able to hurriedly dress myself by then T___T;;;
We got dressed, took our stuff and left the room, but I had a bad feeling about the whole incident so we waited out on the street for a couple of minutes and then I went back in.
SHE HAD LEFT OUR DOOR PROPPED OPEN BY THE USE OF A TOWEL. WHAT THE HELL? @______@ she had gone downstairs to the basement or wherever, I know this because I waited in the staircase until I heard her go in the lift (struggling with all her equipment). It was such a shock to walk into the hallway and see our door wide open like that. I went in, looked around the room to see if anything was missing (didn't seem so, laptops and everything were still there), closed the door, and left.
We went out, noodled around the city with nothing much to do. Went to Baby, The Stars Shine Bright, which was charming, but tiny and ridiculously expensive so whatever 8D
Went to MUJI where Christian found lots of nice new clothes~ later we went and had awesome ramen at a place where I was able to communicate well because the staff spoke Japanese 8D Wheeee. Finally able to order stuff here without feeling insecure or out of place XD;;;
Went back to the hotel and after an hour or so we suddenly notice that a bag is missing from our room :/ Didn't notice at first because it was another MUJI bag (paper shopping bag). That bag was filled with new clothes bought just last week (tags attached and everything), and Christian's Sanyo Xacti video camera. Fuuuuck. The maid must have taken it out thinking it was trash T_T I'm so annoyed at this whole experience, it's not even funny. At every other hotel I've stayed at, hanging the "DO NOT DISTURB" sign means... well, just that. And if that interferes with cleaning times, so be it. By hanging the sign you kind of agree to not having your room cleaned that day. Apparently that isn't the case here?
We went down to the reception and informed them about the missing bag, but the guy didn't know where trash went so... he told us not to worry, though, but I have a pretty strong feeling that we'll never get that stuff back. The weird thing is that we're not really that sad about losing the stuff, it's just the way it happened that's so messed up and awful. I mean, you can always buy new clothes, and I still have my own Xacti video camera, so we're still able to take videos (I even have the battery of the one that's missing, I've been carrying it around as a spare), and the camera didn't have a memory card in it, so we didn't lose any pictures or videos. Still... quite a sad experience :/ No one likes losing stuff, especially when you know there's not really any chance to get it back.
I have to be honest and say that I'm pretty fed up with Paris at the moment. Yes, the architecture is awesome, and the museums are great, but apart from that... I guess it's just not my kind of city. The "atmosphere" that people keep talking about haven't grabbed me, and I'm too insecure to really do anything, other than walk around and look at stuff. Gugugugu. Not saying I'm having an awful time xD It's been a good stay (apart from today), and I'm still looking forward to the coming days... but I don't think we'll be frequent visitors here :P I prefer Amsterdam and Berlin over Paris.
