Berlin Update

Jul 07, 2009 00:00

Looks like we won't go to Dresden and such after all. 8D It'll be much easier for us just to stay in Berlin. We do, however have to change hotels because we have arranged to check out of the Kallmeyer tomorrow.

So why not make it big, huh? We booked a room at one of Berlin's two "art'otel"s, just for the lulz. art'otel berlin-mitte. Should be interesting~ We originally planned to book with The Circus Hotel, but they were fully booked. Maybe next time! :o

So yes. Berlin. I don't really know what to say, we've seen so much, yet so very - very little. There's HISTORY screaming at you from every corner. It's easy to get distracted and just walk towards shiny things. We saw a lot of sights. Navigating around is quite easy (thank you blue points-of-interest signs!), so we walked around and saw all the pretty buildings. Parts of the Museumsinsel was covered up due to construction work, though. A tad annoying, but hopefully it'll mean that the buildings will come out looking all the more beautiful once they are done working on them!

We went to the DDR museum, which was cheesy but also a lot of fun. Have you ever been to a museum and wished you could touch the exhibits? Well then you'd love this museum. Everything could be touched, opened, taken out, tried on, switched around, and studied. Just make sure you return the items to where you found them and you'll be fine. :D It was fun~ Ostalgie~~ Ululz. I want a Trabi

My mum owns a hand-mixer like the orange one seen in the video. I swear we've got the exact same thing at home. I lol'd.

Then we went to the Historical Museum, and I nearly died of exhaustion once we were done. We also somehow managed to miss the exhibit we originally went in to see, so A+ us, but we had a good time anyway so no matter! Hah!
So much to take in, though @_@. I really enjoyed how they had set up the main exhibit in chronological order. We rushed through the earlier time periods (XD), but slowed down once we reached the 1800s. I loved the WWII exhibit. It was extensive and informative, depressing, and everything it should be. We spent ages going through there, my feet were absolutely killing me by the end.
Then we enjoyed some more East vs. West exhibits, they even had sections of the Berlin Wall put up in the museum, so yeees. Great museum, just wish I'd had more energy ^^;

Saw Karl-Marx-Allee for the lulz and had dinner at a Vietnamese restaurant. Had some random tourists come up to me and ask me what I was eating (!!). They thought it looked yummy and wanted to order it for themselves.

Afterwards we strolled around. Found a couple of interesting shops that we'll stop by tomorrow. Also have some sightseeing plans that I'm pretty excited about, so whoo. Things are going well :D

Poseidon chilling out

I don't remember what this was, but it sure is a pretty building :x

*witty commentary about horses*

Brandenburger Tor, which must have been the only thing my dad saw in Berlin, because every time I mention Berlin to him he yells out "BRANDENBURGER TOR!" and laughs for ages. I don't know what's up with that.

"Welcome in Berlin" - here have your picture taken in front of this monument next to creepy dudes in uniform! 8D

Have to watch out for those Berlin bears...

Dead Snow anyone? :x

Platz des 18. März. Did I mention that I love the street signs in Berlin? They are pretty~

The Reichstag Building

:3 Have yet to see the actual remaining bits of wall. Hmmm.

The DDR Museum as seen from the outside.

AMPELMANN ♥ Uguguguuuu, so adorable.

The inside of a Trabi! You were encouraged to try and start it up 8D Very awkward getting into it. The seat is right on the floor! I was wearing a mini skirt X[

Sing mit, Pionier! Freie Deutsche Jugend (official socialist youth movement) stuff.

Let's put on a puppet show! Jon Blund/Sandmännchen ♥ You could watch full episodes of the show at the museum :3 it must seem weird to Germans that we in Norway associate this character with Christmas ^^;
