Ohlol, rant time.
Exam assignment has been announced, and though it's not horribly impossible it still feels somewhat placed above my head 8D Both assignments (of which we're asked to please answer one) deals with answering questions about Marxism, and I'm not sure which would be easier to tackle.
Again, I have absolutely no clue what Marxism is all about, and what effect it's had on cultural studies @_@; Marx was the one philosopher I absolutely couldn't get my head around for my ExPhil class, so this feels pretty sucky. Wikipedia isn't really being helpful in clearing up exactly why Marxism is important to cultural studies either, so I guess I'll just have to go through our textbooks and grasp at whatever understanding I'm able to get from that.
To curious souls, the exam assignment I've chosen to give a try goes like this;
Discuss why
Antonio Gramsci's contribution to culture theory can be described both as a break with Marx, and as a renewer of Marxistic inspired perspectives within recent culture theory.
The other assignment relies solely on understanding of Marxism, so I thought that at least with this assignment I get to ramble on about Gramsci and
his hegemony thing, and not just Marxism (which, again, I just know nothing about D:).
