Title: Beautiful Monster
Author: elementallove
Warnings: None really, as no one dies. Someone does go to Hell, though.
Inspiration: New Moon, after Edward leaves Bella
Summary: Bella Swan was human, and she hated the fact. When she calls upon someone she shouldn't have, what is her punishment?
Author's Note: So, this was basically sparked by a statement made by aikaterini in the comments of the New Moon: Chapter 23 Part 3 sporking. gehayi encouraged me to write this, so here it is.

Bella Swan was human. She had a heart, blood rushing through her veins. Her bones were normal, not transfigured or mutated in any way. A normal sized brain in a normal sized skull. She didn’t have any special abilities, like super speed or telepathy.

She was, undeniably, human.

And she hated that fact.

At first, it was just a hatred of her clumsiness, how easily she could fall down and injure herself. Eventually, however, it started to morph into something more sinister. She started despising what she thought of as her weak, human body. She didn’t like the way she looked, didn’t like seeing the blood vessels on the inside of her elbows. They were a constant reminder that the only thing keeping her alive was a thick red liquid and a thin layer of skin stretched over easily breakable bones.

When she met the Cullens, Bella believed she had found a way to overcome what she saw as the failings of humanity. The Cullens were beautiful, powerful, rich, and immortal. They didn’t get injured, didn’t get sick. Their skin was almost impenetrable, and even if something could break their bones, they healed quickly.

They were everything Bella had ever hoped to be. And she was going to be one of them, no matter what it took.

Her ticket to immortality was the ‘youngest’ boy in the Cullen family, Edward Cullen. He was the only one without a partner, so Bella believed that it would be easy to make him fall in love with her. She promised him that she didn’t care if he was a soulless monster; she still loved him anyway.

What Bella didn’t know, however, was that the only reason she even caught the interest of Edward was because he couldn’t read her mind. Due to some odd occurrence, Bella’s thoughts were entirely shielded from Edward and that bothered him. That was why he started talking to her in class. It had nothing to do with love at first sight, or anything silly like that. She just had something that he desired and he was trying to get it.

Unfortunately for Bella, her humanity made one last ditch effort to save her life and get her away from the bloodthirsty predators she constantly hung around with. At her eighteenth birthday party, she cut her finger on wrapping paper, causing the newest member of the Cullen family, Jasper Cullen, to try to attack her and drink her blood. He didn’t manage to hurt her, but the incident caused Edward to be concerned for her safety. So, he packed up his family and left Forks and Bella.

Bella moped for a few months about losing her future immortality, but soon snapped out of her depression and did something she never should have done: she called upon the Devil himself to grant her immortality.

She had a found a book about dark magic in a used bookstore in La Push. The only things the spell required were a few drops of blood and some local herbs. She made a local boy, who had been trying to become friends with her, gather the herbs.

Then, on the night of a full moon, she went out into the woods and made a pentagram on the ground using twigs. She sprinkled the herbs around the edge of the pentagram, then sliced her palm open with a knife and let a few drops of blood fall into the middle of the pentagram.

She stood at the edge of the pentagram and recited some horribly mangled Latin words. They did the trick, however, because a bright light flashed from the center of the pentagram, and when it receded, there in the middle stood Lucifer himself, tall and proud like the ruler of the Underworld he was.

Bella was struck dumb, first with the knowledge that the spell had actually worked, then with the knowledge that she was going to get her wish for beauty and immortality. No thought was given to the fact that she had just raised the Devil; she had no concern for what type of destruction he could cause to the Earth and the humans that inhabited it, if he so wished.

The only thought going through Bella’s mind was that she was going to receive immortality and be the envy of all the humans on Earth. It never crossed her mind that most people on Earth don’t want immortality or the power that comes from selling your soul. But then, Bella had never cared for humanity before, so why she should have started then, when she was finally going to get what she desired?

Lucifer wasn’t the type of person that liked being summoned on the whim of some moody teenager, and when he was forcibly ripped out of his fiery lair beneath the earth, he was pissed. As he materialized before the stupid girl that had summoned him, he was giving her a glare that could scare even the most horrifying of demons into doing his bidding. On this dumb human girl, however, it had no effect. She didn’t even look scared. Stupid bitch. He’d show her why you didn’t mess with the devil.

The first thing she did, after getting over her shock, was to order him to immediately make her beautiful and powerful and immortal. Did this girl have no self-preservation instincts? Lucifer wondered sometimes why God seemed so concerned with protecting humans if they were all this stupid and so willing to die. No one ordered Lucifer around, especially not some whiny, human brat that exemplified all that was wrong with the human species.

Lucifer was just about to send her blazing down to the fiery depths of Hell, when a better idea occurred to him. She wanted to be powerful and immortal and beautiful, then fine. Lucifer could do that. Normally, he would have asked for her soul as payment, but she had already offered that up the moment she summoned him. All that was left to do now was to grant her wish.

She looked ecstatic when he told her, imagining how she would look when she was as beautiful as the Cullens. Lucifer told her to close her eyes and only open them when he said she could. She was obedient, he’d give her that, as she immediately and without question closed her eyes in the presence of the devil. Honestly, he was almost doing the human race a favor, getting rid of this idiot.

With a wave of his hand and a few muttered words, the transformation was complete. The girl was already as far from humanity as a human could go, so the transformation to something else was relatively quick and painless.

Lucifer conjured a mirror and set it in front of the girl, so that the first thing she saw would be her new look.

He instructed her to open her eyes, and her screams of horror were like music to his ears. She was screeching, but no human would have been able to understand it. It was the hideous wailing of a monster that could only come from Hell. And that’s exactly where Lucifer intended to take her.

As he opened the portal that would take them both down to the Underworld, she was still screeching that she was supposed to be beautiful, not grotesque.

Lucifer grinned. Beauty was in the eye of the beholder, or the one who granted you that beauty.

After all, she looked beautiful to him.
