Admittedly, I was very sick last night and only made it through the episode through sheer force of will and the siren's call of Jensen-is-so-pretty so my reactions are skewed by that. I'm just so over Not!Sam that having him back again after only one episdoe was a huge flashing DNW for me. Wasn't half a season devoted to that unpleasant, inconsistently-written character enough? Apparently not, as here we are.
There were things that I enjoyed -- pretty Dean, "I almost shot you -- again!", this discussion about them only hitting each town once, the brothers back together -- but at this point it's clear that the writers are stubbornly clinging to two nonsensical and annoying plot-points that are threatening to ruin the rest of this season for me.
Stupid Point of Plot #1: That Dean was wrong to rescue his brother's soul from an eternity of torment. They are so set on this that that they had to replay Cas' ridiculous, offensive lecture during the previouslies. If the writers are absolutely committed to this bit of illogic, I'd like an explanation as to why an angel of the lord valued Sam's animated corpse over his soul or why he thinks the soul of the person who saved the world deserves eternal torment.
Stupid Point of Plot #2: That Sam is responsible for what his animated corpse was doing while his soul was being slow-roasted in hell. Both Sam and the writers are absolutely determined that this is somehow the case and -- whatever, fine, it's their show, but I'd like some sort of explanation as to how Sam can be held responsible for the actions of his corpse that took place while he was being tortured in the cage.
Not pleased that the wall is breaking down after only one episode, either. What did Death craft that thing out of, wet tissue?
