Call me the eternal optimist, but I am placing my bet that there will be an awesome payoff to all of this.

I hope so! I'm just hoping we don't have to wait until the end of the season for it. I really enjoyed the what's-wrong-with-Sam plot at the start of S6 but at this point it just feels like they are dragging it out eternally. Right now they don't even have any leads on how to get his soul back, so it looks like we're in for a long wait.

*grumbles*
And I'm sorry for being so grumbly about this. I need to borrow a bit of that optimism.

God, I am so out of patience with that entire plotline. How much longer is this crap going to drag out? The mystery is solved, the uncertainty is gone, and I am just utterly sick of it.

Yep. Exactly. I agree with pretty much all you posted. I was unspoiled so at one point I had this fleeting thought that it would be awesome if they surprised us and Sam did get his soul back this episode. Moving. On. Now.

Maybe a cliffie ending of whether he's okay with it or not. But now ... I fear either it's never coming back or not until 6.22 and that's just too long to wait. We've explored Soulless!Sam to death at this point. Funny in a robot way, baddass (and, yeah, JP is hotter than hell playing it but still that's not the character I fell for), no instinct (except when it's demons and then he's a mind reader). Where can they take it that won't be retread.

I'm always so lenient with this Show. Exceedingly patient. But I thought by the halfway point we'd get Sam back for real.

These writers need YOU working with them. They need to take a look at your long-form stories for ideas on plotting, pacing, setups and resolutions. Right now what they have feels like a big muddled mess, like they never had a plan to begin with.

Where can they take it that won't be retread.
They've pretty much covered all the possibilities at this point, haven't they? Worse, I just don't care about soulless Sam, not in the slightest. Sure, JP is awesomely hot playing a sociopath, but I really have zero interest in watching Dean paired with a sociopath until the end of the season.

I just can't fathom what the writers think they're doing with this.

Watching a man take a knife to a woman's genitals.... What the hell is wrong with these writers?

I thought they would have learned since the last time they did torture porn. But here they were again, same for Meg as for Ruby. I don't know how I'm supposed to ignore the fact that it's only female characters (yes, demons, but still) who get strapped to the torture table naked. I'm not one to knee-jerk cry misogyny, but this disturbs me.

Any chance they have to take is better than just leaving Sam in the cage for eternal torment

Exactly! I hope Dean sees that.

Gonna miss Crowley so badly. :(

This one was even worse than the Ruby-torture scene, as I recall it -- and trust me, I do my best to blank it from my mind. Meg making jokes about rape and the demon taking the knife to her genitals? I felt sick. I still feel sort of sick.

I hope he does too. Cas's entire argument made no sense to me and I can't believe Dean would buy it for a second. That's like saying we should just leave POWs in the hands of their torturers because they're too damaged for the rest of us to bother with. WTF? It's fine if the not-human guy blathers such nonsense but Dean should have been instantly and furiously countering it.

Arrgh!

I AM SO WITH YOU.

I don't even have any SK analogies.

I just don't know how they can drag out this storyline for any longer.

Hello, writers? Do we remember Cas going to Hell back in Season 4? And coming out without a scratch? I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU DO ANY MORE. DEUS EX MACHINA THE HELL OUT OF IT. I WON'T COMPLAIN. JUST GET SAM HIS SOUL BACK OR ELSE PLAY ANNIE WILKES AND LOP THE HEAD OFF HIS MEATSUIT, OR SOMETHING.

I was also sad to see Crowley go! Though I secretly enjoyed the Meg/Cas thing. Just for snarky factors.

OH VIE I AM SO UNHAPPY WITH THIS EP.

And the whole direction the rest of the season is headed. :(

I agree with you -- I would have no problems with deus-ex-ing Sam back into place, none at all! Writers, if you do this, I promise not to bitch, whine, or grumble at all. Just give us Sam back and let us have a few episodes of two awesome brothers in a classic car, killing evil things and saving people. Doesn't that sound like a fun show?

I forgive the show for a lot for the sake of the pretty, but I've got a limit on how much misogyny I can turn a blind eye to and just go, "oh well, it's just a coincidence."

Seriously. Torture porn again? And with the goddamn same scene as last time?

It's not a coincidence -- it's a pattern, and not one that I can hand-wave any longer. Torture porn coupled with rape jokes is enough to kill my love for this show, and I had a LOT of love for this show. Right now? Not so much. I went to bed mad about all this and I woke up STILL MAD arrrgh.

Yeah, I agree about it being a pattern. The coincidence thing is just my mental handwave. The other one goes, "a lot of TV has the same attitudes, it's just that since supernatural is violent show, it's more visible."

There's really no way to handwave this.
