A Day in the Life

Jul 02, 2015 23:17

Ha! I haven't been here in forever! The other day, I was reading the girls some of my old journal entries about them, and they love the Day in the Life ones. They wanted me to do another one, so here we go!

  • I got up at 7:30 to run/walk, girls still asleep
  • returned at 8:15 to find the girls awake and sitting on the couch watching silly videos of themselves they recorded on my iPad
  • I showered and they still watched videos.
  • I fixed breakfast and Sadie checked her blood sugar and got her shot ready, while Ivy played on her DS.
  • We ate breakfast in the living room while watching Merlin.
  • I checked all my social media while Ivy played DS and Sadie started looking through her cookbooks.
  • Sadie decided she wanted to cook something today, and started asking me whether we had different ingredients as she chose what to cook.
  • Ivy wanted to learn how to add another panda in her game, so started reading the instruction book.
  • Sadie settled on strawberry muffins.
  • Ivy couldn’t figure out how to add a panda, so asked me for help. I read the instructions and also couldn’t figure it out, so googled it.
  • The girls started bickering a bit, because Sadie wanted to cook the muffins all by herself, and Ivy wanted to help.
  • Ivy asked if I could read a chapter of “The Hero’s Guide to Saving Your Kingdom.” So I read a chapter… we laughed out loud several times!
  • Time to make the muffins… Sadie compromised by telling Ivy she could chop the strawberries, and Sadie would do the rest. She still needs some help cooking… reaching high things and making sure she’s got the right measurements, but she did a great job! And Ivy pulverized the strawberries! Fun!
  • Meanwhile, Ivy wanted to cook something for lunch, so she looked through another cookbook and decided on couscous with craisins.
  • Got the muffins in the oven, and Ivy and I worked on the couscous while Sadie emptied and reloaded the dishwasher.
  • Ivy got dressed and went outside to swing, and Sadie watched their videos again while waiting for the muffins to finish. I figured out how many carbs are in the muffins and the couscous, since those cookbooks don’t have nutrition facts.
  • I dished up lunch, Ivy came inside and washed up and Sadie checked her blood sugar. It was high. Grr! She had the exact same breakfast all this week, and the other days it was fine, so when she sampled a teensy bit of brown sugar while cooking the muffins, she must have got more than we thought. :-p
  • I got Sadie’s shot ready and she did the shot while I got food to the tables. We ate in the living room while watching Merlin again.
  • We finished eating well before the episode finished, so the girls cuddled on the couch playing Eden on the iPad and I put our dishes in the dishwasher and went to the computer to write.
  • After the episode, I kept writing and the girls played Eden some more. Then they came to ask if we could go shopping, because they’ve been doing extra chores to earn money for a Calico Critters set, and now they have enough. I told them we could probably go out later.
  • I kept writing and they went to watch a video from their fave Minecraft YouTuber.
  • The girls played in Sadie’s room, and I put away the muffins and worked on a grocery list.
  • Sadie felt wobbly, so she checked and her blood sugar was 66. Guess I was too high on the carbs! Both girls had a graham cracker.
  • We spent a good five minutes searching for Sadie’s wallet, and then we went to Toys r Us to get the children’s room furniture set for the Calico Critters. Then we went to Dollar Tree to get some supplies for the crafts for Children’s Music Camp at church next week. I let the girls get a little frozen pie slice each for snack.
  • Got home and the girls opened their new set- out of sight from the Critters so they could set it all up and surprise them with it! Then they had snack… and watched another Merlin! Sadie’s blood sugar was 86, and I gave her 3 units for 42 carbs. It’s possible she’ll go low, since she was 3 carbs under 45, or it’s possible she’ll be fine, because chocolate pie. :-p
  • While they snacked, I wrote. (Trying to finish a fanfic in time to get it beta’d before it’s due for a fest. Yes, it’s a Merlin fanfic. But we’re not obsessed or anything. Hee!)
  • They finished snack, stopped watching the episode and started playing Calico Critters. I got tired of writing and went on Tumblr.
  • The girls made some videos of themselves with their Calico Critters.
  • At 5:40, E from across the street came over and they showed her their videos.
  • They played while I made dinner. About 6:20, Sadie felt wobbly and her blood sugar was 58. She had a graham cracker and Ivy and E split a graham cracker.
  • Pat got home just before 6:30, and then E’s dad came to get her.
  • We ate dinner, and since the table is completely covered with craft supplies for music camp, we ate in the living room. Another Merlin! But again, we didn’t actually finish the episode.
  • The girls washed the doll house, so it would be perfect for the Calico Critters!
  • Pat cleaned up some of the dishes and then he showed the girls a cups game while I cleaned up the rest.
  • We all played a cooperative game using a rubber band with four strings attached to it to stack some cups.
  • The girls played Calico Critters, Pat watched West Wing, and I wrote.
  • The girls took a bath and I goofed off online.
  • Sadie got out and started reading and I went to help Ivy make sure she got all the shampoo rinsed from her hair. Meanwhile, Sadie felt wobbly. She was 97, but it was probably on its way down and she has to be above 100 for bedtime, so she had half a graham cracker.
  • I did Sadie’s Lantus shot and Ivy started an extreme dot to dot. (948 dots)
  • Sadie finished her chapter and then I read a chapter of “The Hero’s Guide to Saving Your Kingdom.” The girls talked me into reading a second chapter by promising to tidy the living room as I read. Hee!
  • The girls brushed teeth and then headed to bed to read on their own for a while.
  • 10pm… checked Sadie’s blood sugar- 197. A bit high, but at least she doesn’t have to eat something and I don’t have to check her again in an hour or so. Lights out, prayers and good nights!
  • Pat is heading to the grocery story, and I am going to write some more.
