We'll start off with a picture. It's not the most amazing one, though I kind of love it. But my camera is quite old and a bit finicky. You'll just have to follow the cut for more pictures and fun things.
I'm a dork and got kind of excited just by arriving at the venue. Vermillion Lies was her first opening band. They were the fun quirky sort of act that I would totally expect to open up for someone like Amanda Palmer. The Builders and the Butchers were the second opening band. They had a much more straight up rock kind of style I wasn't completely expecting. But they did have great energy.
I wish I had gotten a better picture of her entrance! It was amazing. She came straight up through the audience which I think got us all extra excited.
Then she opened up with
Astronaut which I loved. And she followed that with
Ampersand and I almost cried.
Through the show I was hoping to hear two of my favorite Dresden Dolls songs
Delilah and
The Jeep Song. And while we weren't treated to those we all did get to hear a lot of other amazing songs live, like
I Google You(<3 for Neil Gaiman) and
Half Jack.
The performance of
Strength Through Music was quite moving. Her violinist did the reading at the beginning, but this time it was about Columbine victims. And of course they(Amanda and the performance group The Danger Ensemble) followed that up with
Guitar Hero.
A few pictures(including the preview pic from my last post):
Now for some
Coin Operated Boy lulz. During the song the boys from The Danger Ensemble ran around the audience with signs saying Will Kiss For Kash. And sure enough they'd kiss the ones that gave them money. Even a guy standing near me ended up getting in on that action. And then they went and molested Amanda.
Amanda also has a fun section of the show going on in the tour called Ask Amanda. She leaves a basket up on the merchandise table for fans to leave written questions for her in. Some smart guy also talked to whoever the right people were to get himself and his girlfriend brought up on stage at the end of this section so that he could propose to said girlfriend. D'aww!!! I don't have a good picture of that, but have a pic from the normal part of Ask Amanda.
Eventually we reached the finale/encore part of the show in which Amanda dabbles in a variety of other artists music.
Now that it's raining more than ever
Know that we still have each other
You can stand under my umbrella
We're half way there
Livin' on a prayer
Take my hand and we'll make it - I swear
Livin' on a prayer
She performed with The Builders and the Butchers for this one. This is also when The Danger Ensemble passed around their boots for collections. These guys are touring for free! So they really need donations from the fans.
But I'm a creep
I'm a weirdo
What the hell am I doin' here?
I don't belong here
Hells Yeah Radiohead ukulele action!!!
And it just gets better because she did signings after the show! Of course I look like a total goober and am covering up half of Amanda's face. I did snag another quick pic, but it wasn't any better.
I picked up a pack of Crime Evidence photos so I could get Amanda to sign one. And each pack also has a surprise from Amanda in them. The girl running her merchandise table told me that Amanda just ran around her house finding flat things to put in them. I got a tarot card and an ace of hearts card.
So in short, it was a fantastic show!! I hope it's not too long before she comes back through town, next time hopefully with Brian as The Dresden Dolls.
