:: Lessons Learned
What is/was your favorite school subject? Why? I prefer English, History, Sociology or Music classes. Because those are my strongest suits.
What is/was your least favorite school subject? Why? Math or Science, I'm not very good at either of them and have to work hard just to get a passing grade.
Have you ever taken a school subject(class) you thought would be more interesting than it was? What happened? How would you have made it better? I love History, but a lot of people hate it. I think it depends on the teacher, and a lot of teachers shove dates down your throat. I had good teachers who made it fun by learning peoples interests and including them in the lessons, as well as actually doing hands on learning.
:: Footprints in our Minds
Have you ever had a teacher you loved and respected? Why that person? My High School band teacher was someone I thought of as something of a second father, and I greatly respected him. He talked to me like an adult, and always had a shoulder for me when I was having a rough time. He was also very funny, and made working with him fun.
Have you ever had a teacher you loathed and looked down on? Why that person? I had an English Professor my Sophomore year of college I LOATHED. He was always pushing on writing intimate things about your childhood, something I didn't agree with. We got into something of a debate about it, and he said I was sarcastic and 'pithy' because I didn't want to share those things.
In your opinion, all teachers should approach their occupation like... what? How would you recommend teachers to be? Teachers should approach their job with compassion and understanding, everyone can't focus on school constantly-- stuff comes up. They need to be understanding of that. They also need to be understanding that people learn differently, and try different methods.
:: Perpetual Homework
Do you prefer verbal or written exams? Why? Written.
Do you learn more through discussions or simply reading books? Why? Discussions, as a sociology major I like to see different peoples perspectives on things.
Do you prefer exams with long detailed questions (requiring detailed answers) or simple questions (with multiple choice answers already listed)? I like Essay questions, because it's how I remember things-- so long and detailed work better for me.
Would you rather do a pretty big project or a pretty big oral report? Big project, I actually enjoy doing big projects and collecting information.
Would you rather have a more interactive class or a robotic 'hand-in and be graded' class? More interactive.
:: Teaching Should Be an Ideal
You're late for class, what does your teacher do? A few minutes late, let you slide in unnoticed. But I can't stand it when people come in over ten minutes late-- in that case they shouldn't show up at all and be told to leave.
You hand in your assignment two weeks early, what does your teacher tell you? Take it, look it over for mistakes and make some minor corrections and then give it back to you so you can fix those corrections.
Your teacher discovers that, even though you had been assigned to a team to complete a project, you've been the one doing most (if not all) of the workload. What does he do? The grades of the other people in the group would reflect who did the most work.
Your teacher catches a student cheating on an exam, what does he do? Fail them on the exam, and confront them about why they cheated.
You're outside school, enjoying an ordinary day (at the mall, a park, a beach, wherever you like) when you see your teacher not too far from you... how does the interaction play out between both of you? The typical 'Hi, how're you' conversation and maybe chat for a few minutes but other than that just go your separate ways.
