Prompt Fic - Stormy Return

Clark had always loved looking into the sky, into space, wondering what was out there, who was out there, and whether they were looking out from their planet into space, wondering the same thing.

And then he’d found out he was an alien and looking out there took on a whole different reason. He’d look and see if he could see where his birth planet had been, looked to see if there was any other space ships out there ready to come down to Earth like his did.

Standing in his Fortress of Solitude, he felt himself relax as he stared up at the night sky, moving his telescope to look at the stars.

“And here I thought you didn’t know the real use for that,” a smooth voice said from behind him.

Standing up stiffly, Clark turned around to face his best friend, or at least the person he had thought was his best friend, until said friend had disappeared without a word two years ago, leaving him to find out in the newspaper that Lex Luthor had moved back to Metropolis with his company.

In the first few weeks after he’d found out Clark had been angry, but as time had gone on he’d missed Lex, missed talking to him, playing pool with him, just hanging out, and had called Lex’s cellphone only to go through to his voice mail.

After a few weeks of leaving messages, Clark had pushed aside the hurt from Lex not returning his messages and gone to Metropolis to see him, which had not happened, Clark being told that Lex had left the country and that he wouldn’t be back any time soon.

And so Clark had left another message on his phone and sent him an email, never hearing anything back.

His father had been over the moon that Lex had left, saying that it was for the best and that now Clark could get back to his life without any complications, while his mother had simply given him a sympathetic look, making him his favourite food for a week.

Two years on and Clark still felt the pain from Lex’s abrupt and complete silence, the smile he’d usually have when one of his friends showed up absent as he looked at the other man, polite enquiry on his face.

“Lex,” Clark said, giving a small nod and leaning back against the wall next to his telescope.

“Clark,” Lex replied, moving slowly closer to him, small smile on his face. “It’s good to see you.”

Snorting, Clark looked away from the other man, feeling anger course through him.

“Yeah, you too,” he said snidely. “I probably should have tried to keep in contact with you more. You know, call, write, visit, those kind of things.”

Out of the corner of his eye he could see Lex stiffen, hand coming up to run over his head, a sad expression crossing his face quickly before it was wiped away.

“I see your not pulling your punches,” Lex said quietly, something like regret in his eyes. “Will you at least let me explain?”

Looking up, Clark was surprised at how close Lex was to him, almost inside his personal space, the way they had stood before Lex had taken off. Clark wanted to hold on to the anger, wanted to hurt Lex like Lex had hurt him, but he’d never seen Lex look so open, so vulnerable before, and the hurtful words he wanted to say got caught in his throat.

“Fine,” he replied, folding his arms over his chest, wanting to stop the warmth he could feel coming from Lex.

“Two years ago, almost to the day, I figured something out, something that I had never seen coming,” Lex started, his eyes staring into Clark’s own.

Clark felt a rush of panic run through him, his breathing becoming shallow. He’d chased Lex away, Lex had stopped talking to him because he knew what Clark was …

“Not that, Clark,” Lex said, rolling his eyes. “I knew about your differences long before then.”

Swallowing hard, Clark could see the truth of what Lex was saying in his eyes, the feeling of panic lessening a little as he tried to think of another reason why Lex would leave.

“I realized that something had changed, that I had started to feel …”

Lex sighed and ran a hand over his head again, giving Clark a look that he couldn’t decipher.

“You weren’t ready for me to tell you, Clark. And even if you did feel the same way, you were too young to be sure of it,” Lex said, Clark trying to make sense of what he’d just been told.

“But I can’t stay away anymore,” Lex murmured, eyes running over Clark in a way that almost felt like a caress, heat spreading across Clark as his gaze ran over him.

“It hurts too much,” Lex continued. “And I need you there to tell me when I’m doing something wrong.”

“Lex,” Clark started, only to stop as Lex’s eyes met his, full of everything that the bald billionaire was feeling.

His breath caught and he felt his heart start to race as Lex moved even closer, his body flush against Clark’s, his breaths wafting across Clark’s lips.

“What did you realize, Lex?” Clark asked breathily, needing to hear what Lex’s body was already telling him.

“That I had fallen for my best friend,” Lex murmured.

Taking a stuttering breath, Clark felt something inside his chest ease.

“I’m sorry, Clark,” Lex whispered against his lips. “I’m sorry I hurt you; that I left without a word. Can you ever forgive me?”

Staring into the stormy blue eyes, Clark couldn’t help but smile. Lex always had been a drama queen and while he wasn’t completely forgiven, Clark could understand why he did what he did.

“I guess you’ll just have to make it up to me,” Clark said, before leaning forward and covering Lex’s mouth with his own. He nipped gently at Lex’s lower lip, his tongue entering when Lex’s mouth opened, both of them groaning as their arms wound around each other. When they pulled away, Clark saw the smile he was sure was on his own face echoed on Lex’s.

“I think I can do that,” Lex replied, leaning forward again.
