Who: Will and Elizabeth
What: A picnic by the sea!
When: One fine afternoon
Where: Atlantis Beach
Warnings: None that I foresee, unless you need to be warned about getting an overdose of sugary cuteness ^_^ Hehh.
A light breeze played with the ends of his shoulder-length hair as Will Turner stood, hands tucked inside his jeans pockets, staring out to sea. It was a beautiful afternoon: the tide was high, froth on the waves danced like white horses in the distance; the sky overhead was graced with just enough clouds, not too many to obscure the azure sky, but enough to provide some cover. A seagull hovered far out at sea. The only thing missing in this watercolour-worthy scene was a ship on the horizon, Will thought absently, then caught himself. What was with all these thoughts about ships nowadays, he wondered. Where were they coming from? He turned his gaze instead to what lay at his feet.
A large yellow-and-purple chequered picnic mat was spread out over the pearly white sand. The mat was courtesy of his mum; the design was admittedly tacky, but Will figured Elizabeth would look past it. Besides, it was the only mat his family owned, and he and his mother had been using it for years (they did wash it, though). His mother had brought him on frequent picnicking trips when he was young - it was only recently that they had stopped their family ‘tradition’, in part due to her ailing health. Hence, the idea of having a picnic again had struck Will in a fit of nostalgia, and he was secretly elated when Elizabeth had agreed to his proposition.
He had chosen this spot under a large shady tree, delighted to find that the beach wasn't too crowded, leaving it atmospheric enough for an afternoon picnic for two. A date? Will wasn't even sure if it was one; he definitely liked the idea that it was one, but he didn't want to be jumping to any conclusions, just in case Elizabeth thought otherwise.
An array of tupperware adorned the picnic mat. Will had prepared probably too much food for two people. He had brought sandwiches with three different fillings, and salad; strawberries with whipped cream and a bottle of fruit juice sat in a chiller-pack. It occurred to him while preparing the food that morning that he had never been on an outing like this with Elizabeth before- he hadn’t the slightest what kind of food she liked to eat, so he was just going to have to improvise.
Remembering his earlier thoughts now, Will was struck with a sudden nervousness deep within his stomach. He raised his head and continued to stare absently out at the horizon, trying to calm himself down while he awaited Elizabeth’s arrival.
