Since DoA seems to be down, I am making a post here for now to let you all know that I have successfully cast a whole doll in a day with time to spare, meaning that as I get the swing of it, I might be able to work even faster.
Btw, there will be pictures just as soon as I can recharge the camera batteries.
However, since I made the molds from the hips from a set of Greg's casts, they are too small, so I need to remold the hips, but I can get them redone tomorrow, and hopefully cast a doll each on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and ship on Friday.
I am noticing that some of the parts have "chronic" (meaning it happens on every cast) bubbles, where the air cannot escape. Also some of the parts are not coming out as super-neat and smooth as I would have hoped, but I am cleaning up and rough-sanding any odd-spots; I am also cleaning up the pouring gates etc, so that the doll can be strung on arrival ~ however I am not sanding any seams. Each part will have only one seam though, so its half as much work for the buyers as on a regular doll. Seams have been placed ,where possible, on the back or side of a part where they will not be unsightly ~ the seam on the lower torso is on the back but sortof off to the side, if you are only sanding one seam, I recommend it be this one. The inner torso piece would be best to be glued in, I will probably do this if I remember.
There is bound to be some oddness, such as swirls of colour, small inclusions perhaps, and an occasional lone bubble... I will be filling unsightly bubbles with resin and re-pressurising any parts that need filling.
The stringing channels on the arms are quite skinny, but I have no trouble stringing them with my home-made tool, so I will take some pictures of it and write down how to make it. Almost all the parts have core-molds which means I hardly have to do any drilling, except the neckhole, the elbows and the knees.
More when I can get the pictures up;)
