Thursday:
Poured tests for the upper and lower torso and the two lower legs = success!!
Found out that the new silicone I have ordered is amazing and will make my job much easier, but unfortunately the resin I wanted to buy is out of stock from the distributor, so I am looking for alternatives, otherwise there will be more delays, and we don't want that....
I am taking tomorrow off to do some much needed housework, but I can't do much more at the moment anyway, being out of silicone and all. That said I am really getting into the swing of things, mixing, pouring, sealing the pressurepot and having something else to tinker with while the resin gels. I think I can easily get a doll out per day, but it will depend on the resin I end up getting, as some of them need post-curing in an oven. Longer working time means I can pour more parts at once (as many as I can fit in the pot), but that they will take longer to cure, however the resin will gel up pretty fast so that I can take the parts out of the pot again even if I don't open the molds till the prescribed curing time is passed. A shorter working time means I can only pour one large part at a time, and then quickly get it in the pot, but this type of resin sets up fast so I can get the next part in after 20 or so minutes and thus get all the parts (I think I have 22 molds) cast in one day.
Any of this making sense??
Also, for the record, the new leg molds that Kaye and I made are very good, they are glove-molds and they are used vertically, so only one seamline (which is in the back), and we used core-molds so I don't need to drill out the tunnels for the elastic. Casting vertically means that the bubbles will rise up to the pour-gate and air-vents, although there may be some small bubbles along the top of the part, but this is nothing compared to what I got from Greg.
Friday:
The resin I want to buy is somewhere in the Pacific Ocean and scheduled to dock in Australia on July 9. Apparently after a lull there has now been a recent boom in the local movie industry and they have bought up all the resin
.... So I have bought the leftover stock from one place, which is about one third of the amount of resin I need to finish the order, but it is a start. In the meantime I am also trialling another type of resin from a different company, which hopefully will be a decent replacement so I don't have to wait till the mid to late of July before I can continue. Will keep you updated on that, but at least the new silicone is ordered and will be here early next week.
