Quiet time isn't necessarily down time

Today is my day off for this week. Thanks to the back to school busy time, I only get the one this week. That said I should be taking it easy and relaxing. Right? No, for some reason I have just spent five hours using a heat gun and putty knife to strip layers of old paint off the chestnut trim of my spare room. After my housemate moved to Tucson for school, I took the opportunity to renovate the room. This meant pulling the trim completely out of the room, walls, door frames and window frames. The walls and ceiling have been painted, thanks to the efforts of my brother. I have finished stripping, sanding and staining the wall and door trim. The window frames went outside today and were completely stripped. Now to brush them with a wire brush, sand them (three grades) and stain them. Hopefully, I can get this done before Sunday when I plan on polyurethaning all of the woodwork. Once that is done, it's simply a matter of rebuilding the room.

The point to all this is, though I have been working steadily and my back certainly feels it, it has been a quiet day with out the pressures of work, the noise of children or other distractions. I feel good about what has been accomplished today and actually refreshed. After dinner, I shall work on formatting a short story for submission and writing the next part of the new work in progress.

Thanks for listening.
