This asbestos thing is....

turning absolutely horrifying! I mean really. I called today to find out about having it removed and had one person say that they would come out and do a free consultation for us. That gave me a little hope. But then I talked to this other guy who totally flipped me out. He kept telling me it was cost prohibitive to remove it. But it's CRUMBLING around us! And we HAVE to disclose it when we sell it. WHO will buy a house with asbestos in it that way?? Come on!!!!

It literally is falling down. We didn't realize how badly until we would toss our towels over the top of the door to let them dry and when they hit the ceiling, pieces of popcorn would come down. We don't have ten foot ceilings. They're fairly short. (Eight feet?) So you touch the ceiling more than you realize.

This other guy's like "So don't touch it." I have THREE SMALL KIDS! They have pillow fights. They throw toys up in the air sometimes. They play around. They're gonna bump the ceiling. They do! We've lived here three weeks and I've already brought down pieces of popcorn around me. I mean CHANGING A LIGHTBULB and my fingers brush the ceiling and you can see it falling down.

WHY would I CHOOSE to live in a house like that with asbestos and POISON rolling around in the air???

Then he said, "Well, you're gonna have to move out when we do it. But you wouldn't want to do that would you?"

EVERYTHING?

"Yeah. We spray water all over everything and that's how we get it down. So you'd have to move all of your furniture and clothes and boxes out. Then it would take us probably a week or so. You couldn't live there."

Well the question is...move everything out for a week and be relatively safe for the next three years or live with asbestos for three years.

So we go on vacation. The hard part is packing up all the boxes I just unpacked to put everything in the garage. The thought makes me sick. But then again, the thought of POISON everywhere makes me sick too.

*sigh* I hate Dumb (yes capitalized) people who put poisonous things where families are and then charge out the wazoo to remove it. Even though it's 30 years later...someone should STILL help get it out of my HOUSE!

Grumble grumble grrrrr.......and then....*sigh*

asbestos, house, rant
