I have insomnia. It's mild, and mostly under control as long as I practice good "sleep hygiene," but there's still nights like last night when I get 2 hours of sleep and toss and turn most of the night. I know I've had this problem for years and I have memories of being 8 years old and my mother telling me to just close my eyes and think about Disneyland in order to fall asleep.

So I get into work today after my sleepless night and notice that the Newsweek for this week is on woman's sleep troubles. So I pick it up, sit with my co-workers for lunch, and start reading it. My one co-worker looks at the article and makes the comment "Just exercise. Move a little." and then goes back to talking about the fish she cooked for dinner last night.

It just felt so typical. (I'm a little bit angry at her mentality) Some people can sleep and some people can't, and sometimes, it's not as easy for some of us as get a little exercise and drink some warm milk in order to fall asleep or we'd do it.

The Newsweek article wasn't much better. I mean, they recognize that there can be a large number of reasons for sleeplessness, but then they summarize it all in a neat little chart with causes likes 'depression', 'stress', 'menopause' along one side and 'cures' along the other side.

Sigh. Just need to vent a little.
