This is an appeal to everyone living in Singapore.
A lady from my dad's company, Madam Lim Peng Tiang, has been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). She is currently under chemotherapy at SGH Haematology Centre. She needs platelet donors to help her survive through the chemo treatment cycle.
The criteria are as below:
Target: 12 platelet donors
Blood Group: AB+ or AB-
Age Group:18 to 55 years
Medical condition: No history of diabetes, hypertension and asthma.
Other details:
1. The consolidated list of donors will be submitted to the co-ordinator of the haematology center.
2. The co-ordinator will then call the donors and arrange for a 15 minute blood screening.
3. An appointment to donate platelets will be given to the selected donor closer to the date when Madam Lim requires a transfusion. Selected donors might be called upon for a 2nd donation should there be a need.
4. The actual donation process for platelet donation is about 2 hours.
If you know anyone who satisfies the criteria, please ask them to help out by signing up as a donor. Let me know if you'd like further details and I'll give you the phone number/e-mail address to contact Madam Lim's sister. Even if you don't qualify as a donor, please pass the message around.
Please do your best to help Madam Lim. The number of possible donors in Singapore is extremely small and this decreases her chances of survival greatly. I would donate if I could, but I don't have the correct blood type. Normally I might dismiss such messages received in my e-mail, but this time I know it's real. Dad went to visit her in hospital last weekend.
Please. You could save a life.
