sounds flippin' sweet, right? i thought so. here's how i think it would go:
so there would be 2 teams, zombie hunters and zombies, and it would be set up a lot like dodgeball--2 teams each with their own side of a line down the center. the balls being thrown would be waterballoons filled with water and red food dye for the zombies and water and some other easily distinguishable color for the hunters. of course, this would mean that the outermost layer of all the players would have to be white, but other than that players could totally get in character, with zombie stomper boots or zombie makeup and what have you. and the slayers could have water guns! only then they'd only get a kill if they got a headshot on a zombie, so the zombies would have to have white bandanas or something tied to their heads..
anyways, when you get a kill, the person that died has to go to jail, where they will help fill waterballons for their own team until there is a jailbreak. and here's where an element of capture the flag comes in, as in order to get a jailbreak, one must fetch some object hidden on the opposing team's side by crossing the line and running really fast and not getting shot. (when i played dodgeball, there either were no jailbreaks if it was outside, or there was a jailbreak if you made a basket with a ball when we were playing during PE in the school gym, and both of those would be complicated by waterballons.) that would be really hard in a small game, but i think it could be done in a larger one. plus, it would be easy if both teams have a lot of people in jail.
i think, though, the best element of zombie apocalypse dodgeball capture the flag with waterballoons is that all new players who wander by have to join the hunters team, while hunters have the option of becoming zombies upon getting killed (but they still have like a 5 minute time out where they have to help fill waterballoons to keep the game going). after one side gets totally decimated, with everyone in jail, then people are sent back to their original teams, and any newcomers are distributed to keep a starting ratio where the hunters just slightly outnumber the zombies (to make up for the fact that some hutners will probably go zombie, we give them more to start with--probably something like a 4:3 or 5:4 ratio.)
i SO want to play this game...i bet i could get a lot of players when i'm a student at UC FREAKIN' BERKELEY next fall...ohmygod i'm so excited.
oh, and i managed to come up with all of this while my brain was still a bit fuzzy after the ap calc test today. (seriously, it's like when the dentist gives you novacaine that mostly wears off pretty quickly, but still lingers as a slight numbness for the rest of the day. only the novacaine is in my brain. and i am so rhyming.)
awesome,
dodgeball,
zombies,
waterballons,
game,
capture the flag,
apocalypse
