only allowed to say 140 words.Within the space of 140 characters, everyone can say exactly what they want to say. The world is more portable than ever, everyone is on the go, even blog entries. That's the way things are heading to. Instant gratification.
If there's anything that can be done to make things faster, easier, more accessible, not strapped down with detail, it will be done. Because someone will do it in the search for fortune.
One day, someone will make it so that you can be anywhere in the world virtually. Someone will revolutionize communication so that you need only think about it and channels of conversation will emerge. Someone will make it so easy to know anything about anyone that it will seriously threaten individual privacy and people will still flock to fill its' servers. We will be able to get anywhere, speedily, without trouble, and with little cost to the user. And all these things will never trickle down to the overcrowded and impoverished parts of the world, which there will always be. At least, not without help.
The internet holds a promise for every person that invests in it, that they shall become famous. If only for a moment. Because thanks to the internet, nothing is meant to be temporary.
I recall the anime series "Lain: Serial Experiments", a fictional telling of the future. From what I remember of it, it's very easy to fall into the story, and later in the series, fall into the abyss, as there is no story. Like falling asleep only to wake up behind the wheel, you almost forget you are where you are.
And thankfully, this is why we will try to hold back, take the long way around, cut ourselves off from the eyes of the world, try to make ourselves whole again, at least for a little while, just to remind ourselves of how it once was.
