Obama + Florida: Day 24 thru 28

Oct 29, 2008 03:28

Being here is like breathing new air.I spend my days now, listening to Sufjan Stevens on imeem and work incredibly long hours for a mostly singular purpose. And I've never felt so proud to be American. Everyday, more people flood our offices wishing to donate their time and energy to the campaign. Everyday, people come in through our door asking if they can help us walk neighborhoods or make phone calls. Almost everyday, multiple people walk into our office, hands full of pizza or donuts or salad or Cuban pork and rice or Chinese noodles or collard greens and fried chicken or Red Bulls or fruit salad. I no longer spend money on lunch or dinner, thanks to the generosity of people.

The Early Election has already started and the Obama Campaign is seeing an outpouring of support from names like Hillary and Bill Clinton, Jay-Z, Wyclef Jean and Matt Damon, and that's just in Broward County. Tomorrow, Barack is hanging around South Florida and is having a huge rally in a nearby city. There's a huge show of support here in Broward County and surely, there will be pandemonium at the stadium where he'll be speaking.

I hear from supporters talk of leaving the country if McCain steals Florida and wins. That'd be a huge disappointment. Because that would mean America still hasn't learned and that we no longer live in a democracy. But every day that I'm here, I hear the stories that people have to say, I see just bad things can be, yet I see just how good the people are. I can't help but understand that the power of the American people can be far stronger than any ill conspiracy that anyone can muster. It's like Barack says, "America's greatest export is its people."

I've got a lot of faith in people. I hope to never be proven wrong. I just keep listening to Sufjan and I believe it, fresh for a new day.

One week left and it's all over.
