I know it’s been a while but time tends to slip away sometimes. RJ is a senior in high school this year and so a lot of stuff has been going on to gets him ready to graduate. He also will be 18 in February so I’m trying to get as much of his medical stuff out of the way before he loses his insurance. He finally got his braces off, just when I thought we were done with his mouth he now has to have his wisdom teeth pulled. His hip is fine just needs to work on building muscles so the muscles will protect the joint from wear. Now he has bone spurs in his knee so he has to have knee surgery for that. Also, he will be losing optical so I have to get him to the eye doctor so we can get him set with that as well. It’s been rather hectic secluding things.

Last Sunday he decided to go for a walk about and not tell anyone scared the hell out of me I was so close to calling the cops. Mike was checking RJ’s computer for viruses so we told him to go down to the lake for a while. An hour later, we realized RJ hadn’t come home and bugged us to come in like he usually would do after 15 minutes of being with nature. Therefore, we got in the car and checked the lakes no RJ. Mike dropped me at home incase RJ came back and went driving around. RJ had walked down to the ice cream place in Ohio and was on his way home and about 1 and a half from our subdivision when Mike found him. He got a straw from the ice cream place to prove that he had been there. That was a good 5-mile hike there and back so when he got out of the car he said he legs felt like lead. The next day he complained they ached. Well doh..you sit on your but for 5 years and not do any exercise then walk 5 miles your legs are going to hurt, not to mention the impact on his bad knee. So, I told him next time to let me know and I might give him money to get a shake while he is down there.

We finally got started on our addition to the house. 5 week drought was broken when they dough the pit for the foundation for the new part of the house. It filled two thirds with water and we ended up with a dozen frogs and 4 baby snapping turtles in the pit. After three days of pumping the water out and 5 weeks later, they finally were able to put in the foundation. We were with out AC that whole time with 98 degree temps with 98% humidity, for four of those weeks. As soon as we got the AC hooked up, then the weather broke and it was down to 70’s and 68% humidity, go figure. Today they poured the floor for the crawlspace. Finally, things seem to be moving along. We ordered the kitchen cupboard 4 weeks ago and with luck, we will have the new kitchen in by Christmas, not holding my breath though. My new kitchen will have a dishwasher and garbage disposal, which will be nice.

The garden has done really well this year. I have canned 28 pints of tomatoes, 8 pints of squash, 16 pints of pickled peppers, 4 pints of salsa, froze 4 gallons of broccoli and 2 gallons of bell peppers. I had to resort to canning because I ran out of room in the freezer. I so hate canning thought I was done with it when I left the farm. I guess I was wrong. Next year we are going to just grow watermelon instead of cantaloupe and watermelon. We much prefer the watermelon to cantaloupe; both did very well in the garden. Mike wants to plant berry bushes and strawberries next year. He has a plot all tilled up for them.

Whelp that is pretty much what’s been going on around here. It’s hard to believe it’s almost October. The summer slipped passed to fast. I hope the next few weeks stay dry or at least until they get the roof and the siding up on the addition.
