Movies!

I seem to go through these phases when I watch a lot of movies, and I'm apparently in one of those now. Most of these I watched free through Amazon Prime or my subscription with Showtime. So here, have some super short movie reviews!

Source Code - Jake Gyllenhaal. I loved this movie. Sci fi actiony thriller that has the main character flipping back and forth through time to solve a mystery. This hit all my buttons: gorgeous good guy, complex plot, desperate desire to help people, smart premise, compelling characters. Seriously, just an all over excellent watch. IMDB summary An action thriller centered on a soldier who wakes up in the body of an unknown man and discovers he's part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train.

Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil - Fairly dumb but meant to be that way. Amusing watch if you're in the mood for some ridiculous horror movie spoof. IMDB Summary:  Tucker & Dale are on vacation at their dilapidated mountain cabin when they are attacked by a group of preppy college kids.

Kinsey - Liam Neeson looking like a complete geek in this drama about researching Americans' sex lives and dispelling stupid old rumors moored in ignorance. Well done - recommended. IMDB Summary A look at the life of Alfred Kinsey (Neeson), a pioneer in the area of human sexuality research, whose 1948 publication "Sexual Behavior in the Human Male" was one of the first recorded works that saw science address sexual behavior.

No Strings Attached - Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutchner - Fairly entertaining bit of romantic comedy fluff that is less schmoopy than most. I normally hate rom coms for their sheer banality, but I liked this one. I mean, it's nothing deep or profound or anything, but it's entertaining if you are looking for a no brainer. IMDB Summary A guy and girl try to keep their relationship strictly physical, but it's not long before they learn that they want something more.

Pitch Perfect - Fun version of Glee minus all the preachy, self- righteous characters. I liked the singing and the romance was cute and the flawed main character was fun to watch. Enjoyable fluff. IMDB Summary Beca, a freshman at Barden University, is cajoled into joining The Bellas, her school's all-girls singing group. Injecting some much needed energy into their repertoire, The Bellas take on their male rivals in a campus competition.

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol - Tom Cruise. JEREMY RENNER. I really don't like watching Tom Cruise since I rather abhor his stand on mental health treatment a la Scientology. But this is a fun actiony watch with pretty people, a compelling story, and lots of satisfying action. Also, JEREMY RENNER. IMDB Summary The IMF is shut down when it's implicated in the bombing of the Kremlin, causing Ethan Hunt and his new team to go rogue to clear their organization's name.

Beastly - Alex Pettyfer and Vanessa Hudgens. Modern day Beauty and the Beast from the Beast's point of view. Not very good, but I liked watching the pretty people and the graphics were cool. IMDB Summary A modern-day take on the "Beauty and the Beast" tale where a New York teen is transformed into a hideous monster in order to find true love.

I haven't seen The Hobbit yet because I'm afraid it will bore me, even though I loved the Lord of the Rings movies. Also, I want to see Django Unchained - it looks fun and action-packed and not too intellectually complex
