"Dogs", first draft

Dogs
first draft

Barking dogs were at school today
followed by men with garbage bags
and guns

Which reminds me of when I first read
drug-sniffing dog
in the Guinness Book of World Records 1994
I was about eight
or nine I suppose
and wondered why a dog would take drugs
Weren't they happy with barking at squirrels
crapping on lawns
and humping legs?
And what rehab services are available
for a dog?
They can't hold syringes thank God

It was more perverse
that Guinness would celebrate these bad habits

What led me to believe the dogs were the junkies
and not the junkie-busters
is either innocence or its opposite
