Summary: Ianto and Gwen go out.
Ianto straightened the collar on his jean jacket. Then, he picked up his suit to hang up in Ja...in the office. Gwen wasn't there. She was downstairs with Owen and Tosh. She was probably just going to touch up make-up. Otherwise, her work wardrobe would work fine for a club.
"Looking good," Tosh complimented and he tried not to blush. He still wasn't accustomed to being noticed even though they had to work together now.
"For his date," Owen teased.
"Not a date," Gwen spoke and held up her finger with the engagement ring.
"Right, since tea boy's still pining..."
"Owen! Shut it or you'll be doing all of Ianto's duties tomorrow as well your own," Gwen threatened just as Ianto felt anger start to rise up in him. To his disappointment, Owen didn't make another sound.
Ianto wasn't sure Gwen had even heard of Slow Club, but if she hadn't, she'd never let on, readily agreeing to go when Tosh turned him down. He waited as she applied a brighter shade of lipstick and checked herself in the car mirror. A little after that, he turned the tickets in for two wristbands and they walked into the Barfly. Bypassing the main bar, they went upstairs where a crowd had already formed.
"Two Guinness," he said to the man tending bar. One of them went to Gwen.
"Cheers, mate," she said and started on it. They both finished two before the band even started and he was halfway through his third when Gwen nudged him.
But there's people in the floorboards said the mouse
"That bloke's checking you out," Gwen told him and he looked for a moment at the man with spiky hair and smiling. He seemed to want something that Ianto couldn't do.
I didn't say
He shook his head and said, "I'm not...Jack's the only...no."
Oh, I did it
"Oh," Gwen said in a surprised tone. He imagined his sister would be the same way which is why he hadn't told her. If Jack never came back, there'd be no point in telling her anyway.
I tied it to the net, girl
To see where it gets
"What about her? She's been watching you, too," she said and gestured over to a brunette in a tight green shirt with no bra.
But you poured petrol all over
"Go dance with her," Gwen spoke and had her hand out to hold his glass.
You didn't think that you'd be coming home again
So, you said Bye to me
Ianto didn't think the music lent itself well to dancing but that hadn't stopped some from trying. The brunette wrapped her purple polished fingers around a bottle and threw it back. He was tempted.
Don't you ever ponder
On things we never said
But what if it turned out like Jack and Lisa? His heart torn to pieces...
He shook his head and finished off the rest of his glass.
Now it's too late
For a moment, he thought Gwen was going to pursue the matter. Then, her expression changed and she squeezed his arm.
"I'll get you another one and you crash with me and Rhys tonight," she said, "I insist."
Well, I don't
Know what I'm doing here
He wanted to argue but he was glad to not be going home to his empty house.
That I do
But I don't
