I, er, actually loved this interview. John's a lovely guy and was super gracious at Gally in the face of a difficult moment at LobbyCon (he was also fun to drink with for hours on end and was really generous both with his talk about writing and his honestly about the difference between what he expected from that con and what he got). I can't imagine there's any real intent or possibility behind his refusing to answer the Ianto coming back question (because let's face it, if GDL was working on the show, that would have leaked out). However, it did sort of give me a plot-bunny of awesome for a fic, that I have to assume the current writing team is neither sentimental enough or malicious enough to execute on in their own right.

Oh no, I loved this interview too. I loved how candid and honest he was about not knowing what Starz was, and being worried about Americanization and FOX's involvement, and just criticizing his own writing of Ianto's death. I think that's fabulous!

I don't think there's more than a .01% chance of Ianto coming back. But I'm not gonna lie when he said that I felt a little warm glow in my heart before the cold hard cynicism set in again. Haha.

I don't know if we'd actually know anything until shooting starts and that hasn't happened yet, as the new characters AFAIK haven't been cast yet.

That being said, it is definitely a cruel tease.

Translation: I actually liked this interview quite a bit, and I'm sure John Fay is terrific as both a person and a writer, but I don't like being teased with something that is pretty positively not going to happen. It's cheap publicity.

And it does toy with my emotions.

MY FEELINGS :(

I want Ianto to have a badass "Hey kids, did you miss me?" moment in episode 10.

THIS IS MY FANTASY.

Gwen, having realized that she can only save the world if she makes the most horrible sacrifice, is bravely marching to her death at the hands of... something. Then Ianto pops out from the shadows with his Big Fuckoff Gun, kills the baddie, and our favorite Welsh BFFs are united in a moment of squealing and joy?

ONLY TEN(ISH) MONTHS TO GO. WE CAN DO IT! (I can't stop looking at your icon. I'm resisting the urge to lick the computer screen a little.)

I AM NOT EMBARRASSED TO ADMIT IT.

OH YEAH THERE WAS ANOTHER PART TO THAT COMMENT. UM.

TEN MONTHS IS TOO LONG. When the hell are we gonna get some damn casting rumours/confirmation? Like how money months away from filming are they now?

Nice interview! I think he's doing a good job by being such a tease.

I'd be irritated if Ianto came back. I can't see any way it wouldn't feel cheap. But I don't think that's likely to happen.

I agree. It's nice to read about in fanfic, but if it actually happened, unless Rusty came up with a fantastic way of doing it, yes it would be very cheap indeed.

Does it make me somewhat of a whore that I don't even care if it would be cheap? He could come riding over a rainbow on a white horse like Rainbow Brite and take a flying somersault into Jack's arms and I wouldn't care.

Yeah, I don't see any way to bring him back and not cheapen Torchwood, which really is Jack's story. (Well, actually, there's a fanfic or two out there that handles the whole thing in a lovely way, and I am going to keep on reading those).

Mind you, if we can get Ianto flashbacks, nostrovites or rift-induced hallucinations that roll those blue eyes, I am totally good with that.

Just remember how terribly awful and cheap Start Trek III was, and don't wish that on Torchwood.

I think that if it can be done in a fanfic it can be done in the show. They are supposed to be professional writers after all...

Yeah, but then Spock was back and it was awesome!
