Three days to go!

Aug 26, 2011 22:47

Hope you're all getting on okay. Just a reminder that there are three days to go until your rough drafts are due for submission. They'll need to be submitted by midnight, GMT, on Monday 29th August.

You can submit your drafts any time between now and then.

A few issues:

1. I've been out of the country for the last ten days, with far less time to write than I'd anticipated. This is going to be tight. Also, there's a hurricane headed my way. Thoughts?

2. Please tell me that we don't have to make our poor betas work over our first drafts! I'll name my beta (sort of, as he doesn't like being ID'd more thoroughly), but a beta'd first draft seems an oxymoron.

3. Having just come from a writers' conference, I have to ask: What about those who write non-linearly? What if they have a beginning, an end and a middle in sight?

Sorry for the rather raw questions, but I've been awake for about thirty-six hours, so I'm a bit frayed.

1. I suspect hurricanes count as mitigating circumstances. We'll make a note that your submission might be late, but if you could send us your header so that we can prepare to match you with an artist, that would be really helpful.

2. Your fic doesn't have to be fully beta-ed until your final submission, we just need a name so we know you've got one - or at least thought about it!

3. Obviously, if you're writing non-linearly but you've got a decent word count we'll be able to tell that you're getting there, so no worries on that score.

Thank you for replying, and for all your information! I'm taking the precaution of sending you my headers in a few minutes, just in case we get a sustained power outage. It's rare here, but it's been known to happen and I don't want to take any chances.

In the meantime, I'm beavering away on the story as best I can in the midst of hideous jet-lag, work and hurricane prep.

Update: 8 crucial hours of no power + hurricane prep + emergency at home means that I'll definitely be late. Probably hours, though, rather than a day or two, unless the power goes out again.

It's okay. I've emailed you back to let you know everything is fine. Panic not.

I'm having very similar issues to blackbird_song. The hurricane came through my area as well, knocking out power and requiring tons of prep. If this was the only problem I would probably be able to make it on time, but my grandmother's just been emitted to the hospital.

I'm going to go ahead and email my header and this explanation in for now.

I'm really really sorry about this!

Now that I'm awake and not suffering from a migraine that sounded rather rude and demanding. I'm sorry! I'm rather stressed right now with everything going on. I sent my header last night, but by no means am I expecting you to accept it. I just thought I would be better safe than sorry.

Please feel free to kick me in the pants until I learn some manners.
