Most definitely in a vacation frame of mind now. I still have to get my US $ but will wait for payday on Thursday for that. Gotta get some bus tickets since i don't need a monthly pass for May. That has to be done today.

I have a Doctor Who calendar up at work and will kind of be glad to turn the page tomorrow. I've been looking at a "shrieking" Stone Angel all month. A bit grim!

The new half season of Doctor Who hasn't been too bad. Only one that I really really enjoyed, the one in the Russian submarine but a few of the others were pretty good though a bit uneven at times. Only one was a bit meh.  I think there's only a couple more to the season and they're gearing up for some major stuff for the 50th anniversary in the fall. In my mind, yes it was 50 years ago that the show debuted but it wasn't on the air for well over a decade, nearly 20 years maybe? I kind of think an anniversary should reflect a continual thing. I suppose that even  in the interim when it wasn't on tv, there were novels and when the internet geared up properly, there would have been a strong presence there. It doesn't really matter. I know they're bringing David Tennant back for the anniversary so I'm interested to see how they'll have two Doctors on the go. DT could be playing that one from the alternate universe who isn't a true Time Lord or the Doctor could cross his own timeline. I expect River Song will be in it as well.

2013 books

28 The Shape of Snakes - Minette Walters
A woman pursues the truth about the death of a black woman over the course of 20 years. Lies, racism, corruption, manipulation. She is obsessed with the truth and has her own agenda as well.  Review

29 1Q84 - Haruki Murakami
The story of Aomame and Tengo who knew each other as children but lost touch and seemingly yearn for each other over the next 20 years. They have become involved in a different "world" with twists and conspiracies and nothing is as it seems. Well written, a bit repetitive. Released as three books, though i read the ebook which had all three together. Review

30  - Innocent Traitor - Alison Weir
The story of Lady Jane Grey, 9 days' queen of England. Told as a novel from various points of view. Historically correct but a bit clunky. Review

31 - The Remains of the Day - Kazuo Ishiguro
The book behind the movie about a butler whose ultimate strive to be the perfect butler shuts him off from any and all emotional attachment to people. Beautifully written, told from his point of view looking back to the pre WWII days while working for Lord Darlington. Utterly devoted to him while grappling with the new housekeeper who tries to crack his professional exterior.
Review

32 - Medium Dead - Chris Dolley
Brenda Steele sees dead people and she doesn't want to. She becomes involved with a demon who uses a medium to seek out murder victims in order to bring their killers to justice. All Brenda wants is a quiet boring life. It's not going to happen now that Brian is around. It's bizarre, it's mad, it's over the top and it's a lot of fun as they change shape and teleport around to find the man who kidnaps and kills young girls.  Review

33 - Night Passage - Robert B. Parker
You may have seen the Jesse Stone tv movies starring Tom Selleck as the sherriff of a small town in Maine. These movies were filmed here in Nova Scotia around the town of Lunenburg mostly and along the South Shore of the province. The book is the first one of those series. Jesse has been fired from the LAPD for drinking on the job. He's reeling from a divorce and is in a tail spin. He's hired by the town and they think he can be controlled into doing what they want or looking the other way but it turns out very differently when he's confronted with a murder investigation.  Review
