I've been staying with mom for a few days while she's getting back on her feet after an operation. She's getting impatient though she is  making progress. It's too slow for her.  I have my new mini laptop with me using the neighbour's unsecured wifi shhhhhhh.....I like it but There's one annoying thing that i'm sure is something i'm doing. I can send you a file which, when installed, will disable the capslock key if you like, courtesy of Tim. I disabled mine a while ago and I don't regret it.

I don't think so, thanks, unless it's a toggle sort of thing? It might be useful to be able to turn it on and off as i need it.

If you have Windows7 you can enable Toggle Keys, so you are going to hear a tone when you press CAPS LOCK. To do this follow these steps:

Press Start > Control Panel > Ease of Access Center > Make the keyboard easier to use

Mark the Turn on Toggle Keys checkbox

I have the same trouble with my work laptop, and I've discovered it's my fingers gently hitting the touchpad. Drives me mental!

Have you tried Shift + Fn? I have some of those on my laptop.

How do you disable the touchpad?

On mine there's a spot on the top left corner when you double tap it, a red light comes on and it's disabled. There may also be a setting somewhere as well. I don't know if it's something that's a feature on all of them.

On a laptop, you can't use the numeric keys along the top of the keyboard to enter character codes. You have to set NumLock and use the numbers etched on the main keys themselves (which double-up as a numeric keypad when NumLock is activated - usually M, J-K-L, U-I-O, and 7-8-9). It's a bit of a pain but useful in emergencies.

You may also be able to reduce the sensitivity of the touchpad so it doesn't respond to glancing blows. This will stop the cursor flicking problem but still allow it to work when you put your finger directly on it.

On this laptop i can use the numeric keys for the characters with the shift key. There isn't an embedded number pad on the alpha keys and no numlock key.
