Dear Yuletide Author,
Let me start by saying I love you. I really, really do. Not only are you giving up your time to give me a tailor made gift, but we're doing this together! Yes, I know that's a goofy thing to say, but part of what I love about Yuletide is the general love and buzz of the community. So just as a fellow participant, I adore you. As the person writing a story for me, my adoration goes up a notch or ten. You're already my hero, or shero! We're in this crazy madcap ride together, right?
On to the helps!
Here are some general things:
- Overall, I would like to stay in the PG-13/Teen
- I love gen! I know I've put out some shippy requests, but feel free to ignore that in favor of gen if that's (a) where the story is leading you or (b) you just can't see my ship together. Understandable. We've all been there.
- If you do decide to ship, please keep the story in the PG-13/Teen area. I can only think of one fandom where sex/gore is the norm, but I think I'm offering for that one not requesting. If, however, I've changed my mind between now and the close of sign-ups, please do go with fandom norms. I'll only have myself to blame.
- No slash.
- No incest.
- I love crossovers! Feel free to cross with any other fandom I've listed (which would be highly interesting if you could make any of those happen), or any of the fandoms I popularly write. I can tell you now that I primarily write for BtVS and Tin Man these days, and have inordinate love for Inception. You can check out my writing here on this lj or over at Fanfiction.net
Specifically:
Mansfield Park by Jane Austen - I said it last year and it's still true: this is my favorite Austen. I love Fanny. I love watching her grow. I perhaps identified with her too much as a younger person :) Anywho, lately I've been interested in modern setting AU's, so that's an idea if you can work it out. I'm also interested in future-fic for Fanny/Edmund. I have also lately, very lately, begun reading Fanny/Henry fic in which Fanny's love redeems him; if you can make that happen, great. If you can't redeem Henry, then please don't ship them. I've always thought they were a terrible couple b/c I could never quite believe that Henry had changed. On the third hand, if you can't find it within you to write anything nice about Fanny, don't write about Fanny at all. Make her a character, yes, but don't feel the need to make her a primary one. I can happily live with that.
A Different World - I loved this show! I realized just today how much the Huxtables shaped my future dreams for myself. I wanted to live in a brownstone (and still do), and I wanted to go to Hillman. You could write virtually anything for this show and make me happy. I'd love to see some of the early characters come back, Freddie's cousin for instance, for whatever reason you can contrive. This also has crossover potential with...stuff. Everyone has to go to college at some point, right? EDIT: OMIGOSH WHATEVER HAPPENED TO WHITLEY'S LACKEY?!? I don't even remember the girl's name but if you can write that then you are made of starlight and roses!
Captain Planet and the Planeteers - This cartoon is one of the reasons my mom's been calling me a tree-hugger since I was in kindergarten :D Again nearly anything you do with it would please me immensely, however I am interested in seeing the kids all grown up. Are they still protecting the planet? Have they had to give their rings up to another generation (or two)? Did they turn away from Captain Planet and Gaia? Anyone get married? Anyone died fighting the good fight? You see what I mean. Future fic is ideal, however an episodic fic would make me happy too. Serious or silly, I can't see how you could go wrong here.
Ugly Betty - Dear Author, don't kill me. I was actually kind of hoping for Daniel/Willie. I know! I know! So, yeah, if you could somehow make that happen, you'd be amaze-balls. On the other hand, Daniel/Betty has always been my OTP even though I quite enjoyed most of Betty's onscreen relationships. (Is that weird, shipping one couple on TV but hating them in fic?) Story ideas? For Daniel/Willie? Um, I kinda got nothin'. (Remember I said don't kill me.) For Daniel/Betty, if you could somehow get them together sooner, either through some twist of fate or Betty actually getting her fashion sense on earlier in the series, I think that could be interesting. This is one where perhaps gen-fic would fill the void more handily. You have to admit, whether Daniel and Betty ever got that worked out in London (they totally did!) they are excellent friends...but not in that first ep. So, yeah.
Tin Man - I have always been fascinated by post-Sorceress Azkadellia. I have a ton of personal head-canon for her, but I find other people's interpretations of her interesting as well. If Azka-D isn't your girl, feel free to toss in whomever else can make this work for you or to shift the timeframe earlier (what was it like, those first few years, with the Witch in her head, for example). I would really like this one to be Azkadellia-centric, however.
And there you have it, Dear Author. I hope I've helped somewhat. I'm afraid that my requests are too vague. I apologize! But remember, I honestly and truly think you are wonderful. Yes, really! I loved Yuletide long before I started participating (it introduced me to UB fic, actually!), and I've enjoyed participating every year I've done it. But I also know how hard it can be, and nervewracking!
