"Yeah!" Newbie flops onto his back, taking Curtis' hand with him, and gives the ceiling a big grin. "'Cause then people voted for me! And maybe next time, even more will!"

Curtis slides his hand out from under Newbie's back, and leaves it pressed to his side instead. He's relieved at the mood change. "I bet they will. And you know you always have my vote," he says, finding that the whole reassuring thing gets easier and easier.

"Well, I knew I'd have at least one," says Newbie, looking up at Curtis with big eyes. The people who love you kind of have to vote for you. It's like a law, even if the island doesn't have any.

"I could have voted for Klaus or Denny Crane instead," Curtis replies grumpily, listing two names he remembers from the annoyingly long ballot.

"And me," Newbie chimes in. "'Cause you got three."

[tvaholic]

Curtis scowls. "You're missing the point," he says, moving his hand away.

[frooty_o_s]

Newbie watches Curtis' hand move away, making an effort to grab it back again. "What?"

[tvaholic]

"You're important to me," Curtis mumbles awkwardly.

[frooty_o_s]

"What?" Newbie asks again, scooting closer.

[tvaholic]

"You heard me," Curtis snaps huffily, eyeing Newbie.

[frooty_o_s]

"I just wanted to hear you say it," says Newbie, "ya know, like, louder," and rubs his cheek against Curtis' knee.

[tvaholic]

Curtis rolls his eyes. "You're important to me," he repeats in his normal tone of voice. "...Especially when you do the laundry."

[frooty_o_s]

Newbie looks down at his pajama pants and back, deflating a little. "Okay."

[tvaholic]

Curtis sighs, letting his hand come to rest on Newbie's cheek. "It was a joke?" he points out.

[frooty_o_s]

"Oh." Newbie turns his face back into Curtis' leg. "Will your rub my back some more?"

[tvaholic]

"Fine," Curtis submisses. He lugs Newbie further up the bed and lays down next to him, reaching his free hand over to rub Newbie's back. "Any knots?"
