Too Much TV

Over the past 3 nights, I have watched even more than usual. I bet it would be scary to total it all up.

Survivor- It’s disappointing that Yau-Man didn’t win and that Dreamz completely screwed him over, but that’s the game. And Earl was my 2nd choice to win anyway. I’m looking forward to next season in China, and I think it might be time to consider

First, of course like you I am ecstatic about FNL. I also agree about the time slot - they've put it in the place where TV shows go to die. I hope that won't be the case or that they don't expect it to perform miracles there since it's already struggling. I really liked where it was, but I also haven't had a Friday night show in years, so this should be interesting. I just hope they hold onto it. It's far too good to let go. BTW... there was a long blurb in Ausiello this week about the show, not sure if you've seen it. It said that the season's going to open with Mrs. Coach just about to have the baby. And it also said something about how they were going to try to squeeze another year of high school out of the players and that even when they do graduate, they won't necessarily leave the show. I thought it was interesting

I haven't had an important show on Friday nights either since the TGIF lineup. I just don't want to see a show of this caliber get pulled quickly if it doesn't do well in the ratings, I would hate to see the episodes burned off in the summer months or something like that. At least expectations are lower on Friday nights. I'll also keep shamelessly plugging the show and loaning out the DVDs to everyone I know. I wish the DVDs would come out earlier in the summer, but I've only heard of a late August release date. I did read what Ausiello said about next season. I'm glad we'll get to see a little bit of the pregnancy; I would've been disappointed if the kid was already here when the show returns. Do you know which characters, if any, besides Jason Street and Lyla were seniors this past season

Haha I was a TGIF fan too, no surprise. ;) It's quite embarrassing now, but when I was in middle school, I was so obsessed with Boy Meets World. Speaking of having no life on Friday nights, I would stay home from school dances and such to catch it. So, while terrible, I have a been a TV fiend from way back

I kind of miss the innocent days of TGIF. Sure, I'm watching higher quality shows now, but those mid-to-late 90s shows didn't turn you into an emotional wreck or screw with your mind like some of the current ones do

I've decided not to watch Lost tonight. I've done really well with not watching for several weeks now, and it's time to move on. I read the spoilers, and I just don't feel compelled enough to go back. I also don't think I need to see depressed, suicidal Jack. I know I'll probably go crawling back again, but for now, I'm letting it go. What a disappointment.

You are so smart. I WANT to stop watching, truly I do. I was nervous for hours before the finale, and not in a good, excited way. In a dreading it sort of way. And even though I knew everything that was going to happen. I got invested in Jack and Kate, and I can't help wanting to see them through. But I either want to a) watch it all on DVDs at the end, straight through (which I'd really prefer) or b) watch it every week solely as a normal viewer, no internet, no fandom, no extreme obsession, and no Skaters. I'm not sure I'll be able to do it, but I just don't enjoy any of this anymore. As a strong Kate fan, I'm not seeing eye-to-eye with any of the Jack-fan-first Jaters. It's

I can't believe I actually stayed away from it from episode 16 on...I'm usually loyal to the bitter end with shows. The glass is usually half full, but with Lost, I just can't do it anymore. What I hate the most is that I quit watching over relationship stuff, and when I first watched Lost, I never would have imagined that. If I had not gotten invested in the Jack/Kate storyline, I would still be watching. I wouldn't be saying "best show ever" because those first 6 episodes of season 3 had more problems than the cage sex. All that said, I'll still watch it occassionally and keep up with it online, because like you said, it's hard not to see something you cared about through to the end. I just don't want to see what happened on the island that led to Jack's horrible downward spiral. I'm just wondering how depressing things are eventually going to get.

Yeah, I'm not really sure where I'll find myself in eight months. That is a LONG time to keep up interest, and I'm afraid that it will be waning much further by that point. I want to get out of the fandom part of it, and I think that will help.

I really need to watch less TV (I know, *GASP!*). I've got the DVDs of House and Grey's Anatomy to watch this summer to catch onto those shows. I've heard great things about The Office and would kind of like to try to start watching that as well. And then I think about new shows too! EEK. I need to trim my schedule, I just don't know where to do it. I can't watch 3 hours of television every night when the TV season starts again after a full day of work. Decisions, decisions.

But I'm with you - I HAVE to stop the shipping.

For me it's been even harder to stay away from the Lost websites, message boards, etc. I still want to know what's going on and what everybody thinks. But that's when the show is actually on. For now, I seemed to have stopped caring. It's when the spoilers and the promos start rolling out that I'll be tempted again. It's a vicious cycle.

I need to watch less TV too, but I'm with you, I don't where to cut any shows out. I always try out a few new shows, which replace any that were cancelled this season. I hate summer TV though. I want something new to watch, but so much of the "original" programming is worthless. You'll enjoy House & Grey's Anatomy. I was disappointed with Grey's by the end of the season, but it'll get better again. I would advise not getting emotionally involved with any of the couples though on Grey's because Shonda Rhimes doesn't seem to like happy characters. House is a good safe haven from shipping, well for me at least. I could watch Hugh Laurie interact with a wall & be completely satisfied.

I think we're just hopeless TV cases. :) I'm enjoying coming home from work and not having a full night of TV because it just dominates your night. But I can't imagine not watching copious amounts during the TV season, so I just need to learn prioritization. I'm thinking of maybe taping stuff and catching up on the weekend. The highlight of my week already are Friday nights, so I absolutely cannot wait to add FNL to the lineup. SO EXCITED. I'm thrilled for all of its TCA nominations. It really just is the. best. show.

I'll let you know what I think about House and Grey's Anatomy. Two of my best friends are always telling me about the latter, so I'm glad to finally catch up. I'm afraid this shipping thing will be a hard one to break, but I'm going to do my best not to get attached... at least not to the degree of Jack and Kate. The intensity of that has been almost crippling at times. I really don't want to do it again.

"I think we're just hopeless TV cases. " We really are...excessive TV watching is a very hard habit to break! TiVo is a really great investment. Unless I have something really important going on, I watch my main shows on the nights they first air (because I can't stay away from the internet and I'll find out what happened). But then I catch up with the not-so-important stuff on the weekends. I had a good system going last season. Plus, being able to skip all commericals saves time too.

It's hard not to root for TV couples. If more shows would just leave out the love triangle aspect, I wouldn't be so afraid of getting emotionally involved. I don't understand why TPTB of so many shows think that is what their audiences want to see.
