Too Much TV

Over the past 3 nights, I have watched even more than usual. I bet it would be scary to total it all up.

Survivor- It’s disappointing that Yau-Man didn’t win and that Dreamz completely screwed him over, but that’s the game. And Earl was my 2nd choice to win anyway. I’m looking forward to next season in China, and I think it might be time to consider applying myself. I’ll never get picked, but what can it hurt to try?

How I Met Your Mother- I just read that it was picked up for next season, and I’m very glad. I think there is much more to learn from Barney. Plus, I’d like to see the mother. The finale was a great episode and would’ve worked nicely as a series finale. Lily & Marshall do make an “awesome” couple. Ted & Robin’s breakup was inevitable, and it played out in a believable way. They just weren’t meant to be together.

Dancing with the Stars- I don’t really care who wins now. I got what I wanted---Len on the dance floor.  I’m glad Ian was voted out too; the final 3 definitely deserve to be there.

The Bachelor- Sadly, I still watch this, but what makes it so much fun is The Sports Gal’s recaps on espn.com. This woman is snarkier than anyone that writes for TWoP.

Gilmore Girls- With the exception of Dawson’s Creek, series finales aren’t the best episodes of a series. I was actually a little underwhelmed last night, especially with the Luke & Lorelai stuff. But I felt cheated anyway, so what you can really do to make it better in one episode? My favorite part was Lorelai agreeing to continue the Friday night dinners with Richard & Emily. I’ll probably miss Emily the most. But I’ll miss the show too; it was a Tuesday night staple for 7 years and I hope Lauren Graham gets the career and recognition she deserves.

House- The episode was appropriately titled. That kid was a jerk.

Upfronts- First, I should really write a letter to NBC thanking them for their commitment to quality. I know that a letter would’ve written if Friday Night Lights hadn’t been picked up, so I should give them credit to standing by shows like FNL and The Office. I’m ok with the decision to keep The Office a half-hour. (There will be 25 episodes including 5 hour long episodes, so we’re still getting more.) In a perfect world, it would be 45 minutes every week, but that just wouldn’t work. I’m a little concerned about it going up against Grey’s and CSI, but I know where my priorities are. I’m also not thrilled with Friday Night Lights actually being put on Friday nights at 10 pm. It’s a show that families can watch and it needs to be on earlier, and people go to actual football games on Friday nights. But I’m still not complaining, we get another year of Coach & Mrs. Coach. As for the other networks, I’m disappointed that The Class was cancelled, but I’m glad ABC did pick up the Addison spin-off. It needs work, but honestly I like an Ally McBeal-Nip/Tuck hybrid. As for the new shows, I don’t pay much attention until Matt Roush tells me in TV Guide’s fall preview issue what shows to try out.

Lost finale spoilers- I haven’t watched the show since early April, but I might watch it next week. I’m thinking the spoilers are true, and if so, somehow I correctly predicted the final scene. Generally speaking though, my scenario was a happy one and it was the only flash forward scene in the episode.
