Scene: The next day. The cast, mid-rehearsal, is running "The Regulars" dance number, without music, helping TAKIGAWA learn the movement.
EIJI: *rubs his forehead with his wrist* You getting it now, Buchou?
TAKIGAWA: I think so... could we try it one more time, from the beginning?
UESHIMA: Sure. *the cast sets up for the "beginning", which, for the dance segment, is Kimeru's second solo in the song. Crossing to his position SR, calls out* Five-Six-Seven-Eight!
KIMERU: *half-spoken, half-sung, to give the guys something to move to* Yorokobi no hi made tsuzuku kurushimi
namida no-
TAKIGAWA: Hold on a second...
EIJI: *the cast stops, with the slightly weary sigh of people who've been over this, again and again* What's up?
TAKIGAWA: *frowns, looking between TUTI and ABE, who he stands between* ...They're both doing something different. Which way is it supposed to look?
EIJI: Oh. *points* Follow Abe-- you'll never get it to look the way Tuti does it.
TUTI: *bewildered* Ehhh? *scratches the back of his head* What? Does it really look different, the way I do it?
EIJI: *rolls his eyes* Tuti, there isn't a person in Japan who moves the way you do.
NAGAYAN: *pipes up, with a little grin* There isn't a person alive who moves like Tuti does.
KIMERU: *clears his throat* Can we try it again, please?
EIJI: *sighs* Hai, hai... *grumbles* You can say that- you don't have to move at all! *walks back into position*
KIMERU: *starts again, the cast around him falling into motion* Yorokobi no hi made tsuzuku kurushimi
namida no kawari ni nagare ochiteku ase
Uchikaeseru ka masugusugiru SMASH
wakatte kure kore ga bokurano sei ippai nano-- what??
TAKIGAWA: *is back to looking at TUTI, a little confused- but he's starting to catch on* ...that is just supposed to be a "wave your arms" sort of thing, right? *waves his arms to demonstrate*
EIJI: *entertained in spite of himself, pretends to be aggravated* God, Tuti! What the hell are you doing?
TUTI: *a slow, guilty grin spreads across his face* ...waving my arms with everyone else?
EIJI: Um... your idea of waving is very different from the entire rest of the cast. *waves his arms in an all-encompassing way to emphasize his point*
TUTI: *defensively* So? Who am I hurting?
NAOYA: *catching onto the teasing spirit of this argument* Well, you did hit me that one time...
ABE: Yeah! *jumps on the bandwagon* Would it kill you to dance like everyone else, for a change?
SOTA: Ueshima-san! *turns to their director* Can you do something about this? Like, I don't know, order him to dance normally?
UESHIMA: *not trying very hard* Tuti. Dance more normal.
TUTI: *knows they're teasing him, and plays along accordingly. Helplessly* I'm trying, really I am, Ueshima-san! *his feet moving of their own accord, starts pacing*
UESHIMA: I do realize. *crosses into C, and stops, turning as TUTI passes him* And you know I've been very lenient to your... peculiar style of dancing-
TUTI: Peculiar?! *tosses a look at EIJI, who gives him a pointed look; glances at NAGAYAN, who shrugs helplessly. Turns around and heads back SL, passing behind UESHIMA*
UESHIMA: -and I understand it's going to be nearly impossible for you to look exactly like everyone- else- *turns around so he can see TUTI again* Could you possibly stand still for a moment and listen to me?
TUTI: *stops midstep* Sorry. *plants his feet and puts his hands in his pockets*
UESHIMA: Thank you. *frowns for a moment, trying to remember where he was in his tirade* Oh yes. I know it'll be hard for you, but could you at least try to- *stops again* ...your leg is bouncing.
TUTI: *looks down at it, in surprise. With an effort, stills it, and looks back up at him*
UESHIMA: *lips quirk, as he tries not to laugh* What am I going to do with you? Every rehearsal is like this, with you running around, bouncing off the walls...
NAGAYAN: *pipes up* He can't help it- he just has way too much energy!
TUTI: Yeah! What he said! *sings*
I never walk when I can run
I don't believe I ever could
People try to slow me down
Sayin', "Boy you really should
kick back and chill"
But I can't stand still
EIJI: *calls out* Yeah, the last time we asked you to 'chill', I think you broke the green room sofa.
TUTI: *laughs, and heads back over SL*
I called the doctor, he said, "Son,
I cannot offer you a pill"
So I never found relief
*starts into his "foot thing" (which if ANYONE can describe, will be amazing)*
And now I've got to move until
I've had my fill
I can't stand still
*runs to C, and busts out some serious breakdancing isolations*
Back where I come from
Life's never humdrum
I wish I could take you there
Oh, we had the world at our feet
Life was sweet
Ain't no doubt
Grab a seat
Check it out
*dance break!*
Oh, I thought it never would end
But I lost it somehow
Would you look at me now?
I'm tryin' hard to tone it down
Gotta watch my P's and Q's
Maybe look before I leap
And then I think, "Hey, what's the use?"
Ain't done it yet
And I can't forget how it feels when you dance 'til you drop
So don't even start to suggest that I stop
I never will
I can't...
No no no no
No no no no...
I can't stand still!
*collapses in a heap*

(scene TBC)
There is a distinct lack of stage direction in the song, mostly because- at the insistence of a friend- I made a video. (It's my first one ever-- please be kind!) I've uploaded it onto YouTube, here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sRqxMW_a5k The song is from Footloose, if you're interested. ^__^
And in honor of a day that I generally disparage (but hey, the boys are making me all LOVE-LOVE this week, aww):
From Shy_Vi and her Tuti monkey.
(I offer no apologies for my extreme dorkiness. XD If you want the whole story- or most of it, anyway- you can check my personal LJ for the "Saga of the Tuti Monkey.")
Oh, and a quick "Good luck!" from us, to
fencer_x,
for her interview. Ganbatte!
