back to being a one-dog household

By 9:00 I was thinking that the people must be home already, and if they didn't miss their dog - well so be it. I was ready to take down the signs in the morning and just keep checking lost pet notices. At 9:48, my cell rang and I let it go to voice mail. It was them. I called her back and she decribed the dog. I guess she had been missing since yesterday. They went to put up signs tonight (at 9:30) and saw my sign. They said she got out of her collar. Anyway, she sent her husband over to pick up the dog. It made me sad at first, but then when I opened the door there was the man and the cutest little boy who was around three. I handed him the dog. My heart melted. The dad was saying how she kept getting out, and we said we knew because ours did the same when she was a puppy. I could tell that the woman and this man were a little embarrassed about it all. Maybe it will make them take care of her a little better. I cut most of her mats out, so maybe they'll notice that.

But then it made me appreciate my dog more. I let her get matted while we were traveling this summer. (Not near as bad, but I still felt bad.) Today my dog was jealous of the pup, so I spent more time with my dog. How would she have felt if we got a new dog? So, it's a good thing. It made me want to be a better owner to my dog. A little boy got his puppy back. The owners got a wake-up call to take care of their dog better (I hope.)

Deep Thoughts... all from one afternoon with a little puppy. Silly me!
